Overview
Do you remember the time when a roadster was supposed to have character, and not just a digital dashboard and a plethora of electronic aids? In 2006, the Suzuki SV 1000 N recalled this truth with disarming frankness. Here, no excessive sophistication, but a proven formula: a lightweight aluminum trellis frame and, above all, this excellent 996 cm3 V2 engine inherited from the TLS, but slightly civilized. With 125 horsepower at 9000 rpm and generous torque of 98 Nm available early, the engine is the soul of the machine. It purrs smoothly below 2000 rpm, then delivers a frank and enjoyable pull to the rev limiter. Perhaps a touch of the wild character of the early TLS is lost, but versatility in everyday use is gained.

With a wet weight of 216 kg and a seat height of 800 mm, the SV 1000 is immediately taken in hand. The wide handlebars and natural riding position inspire confidence. This is its first feat: it makes you forget its almost 1000 cm3. The cycle part, with its fully adjustable suspension, is of remarkable efficiency once set up. When pushing the pace, it proves agile, precise and incredibly reassuring. You sometimes feel like you're on a large SV 650, so obvious is the ease of handling. The braking, with double discs at the front, is up to its performance. It is a motorcycle that forgives a lot and allows you to focus on pure pleasure, whether for a quiet ride or a more sporty course.
Its versatility is its other major asset. The supple V2 and correct turning radius make it a surprisingly capable candidate in the city, despite a somewhat bulky 17-liter fuel tank. It effortlessly transforms into a companion for long journeys, even if the passenger seat remains rather spartan. Faced with competitors such as the Honda Hornet 900 or the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer of the time, the Suzuki SV 1000 S defends its territory with an undeniable argument: a purchase price, new at the time around 9200 euros, very aggressive. Today, looking for a used Suzuki SV 1000 is an excellent plan to acquire a characterful and reliable roadster without breaking the bank.
Who is it for? For the motorcyclist looking for a first large displacement accessible, but not boring. For the sporty tourer who wants a simple, robust machine full of sensations. For those who, faced with the complexity of recent models, dream of honest mechanics and direct riding. The S versions, with fairing, and N, naked, share the same base. Whether you are consulting a Suzuki SV 1000 specification sheet for the 2003, 2005 or 2007 version, the fundamentals remain the same: an unkillable Suzuki SV 1000 engine, a competent chassis and guaranteed fun. It is a modern classic, a motorcycle that proves that pleasure does not need to be complicated.
