Overview
It's a question often asked on the used motorcycle market: what remains of a sportbike when you remove its aggressiveness and uncompromising nature? The answer, for the 2007 generation of the Suzuki GSX 600 F, might well be a restrained, efficient, and strangely endearing touring machine. It won't excite the crowds with its lines, inherited from a 1990s bio-design that has aged poorly, but it cultivates a unique character. It’s no longer a sportbike in disguise; it’s a machine that embraces its versatility with a certain serenity.

As soon as you straddle the beast, the tone is set. The 78.5 cm seat height is low and welcoming, a real strong point for those of modest stature or beginners seeking a reassuring first contact. The stated weight, 229 kg with full tanks, is forgotten once in motion thanks to a well-managed center of gravity. The slightly forward-leaning riding position, without being extreme, confirms the ambition: you’re here to devour asphalt, not to play tightrope walker in the city. It's a machine made for travel, for taking the open road without tension.
The engine, for its part, is a piece of another time. This 600 cm3 inline four-cylinder delivers 80 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, but it’s mainly its torque of 55.9 Nm, arriving high at 9,500 rpm, that tells a story. At low rpm, it’s flat, almost asleep. You have to wake it up, make it sing beyond 7,000 rpm for it to begin to speak seriously to you and propel you to its 200 km/h ceiling. It's a mechanical component that demands anticipation and rewards active riding. Compared to a modern twin-cylinder, it feels empty in the city, but on the open road, it finds a second youth, supple and linear.
This character is reflected in the chassis. The double cradle frame and adjustable suspension as standard offer iron stability, especially in large curves where the motorcycle settles with remarkable assurance. However, don't ask for the agility of a true sportbike. The reactions are soft, a little mushy if you mistreat it. The braking, with its two front discs, does the job correctly without being sharp. It's an honest mechanical component that forgives small errors but won't hide its limits if you push it too far.
So, who is the Suzuki GSX 600 F for today? Clearly, it’s an excellent candidate for an A2 license, offering a good compromise between character and maneuverability. Its used price is often very attractive, and its technical specifications reveal a robust and simple motorcycle. It won't dream like a GSX-R, but for those seeking a reliable, comfortable touring machine for long journeys and capable of making you smile on a mountain road without terrifying you, it has solid arguments. It's a mount that requires a little complicity, but once tamed, it reveals a loyalty beyond reproach.
