Overview
Who still remembers the days when Suzuki offered an accessible custom without falling into the chrome-plated caricature of American boulevards? The Suzuki C 800 Intruder 2012 is precisely that understated machine, one that doesn't try to dazzle but owns its niche with a certain elegance. Back in the lineup after Euro3 compliance updates, it carries on a simple recipe: a liquid-cooled 45° V-twin, 805 cc, and an all-around smooth temperament. Nothing to scare an A2 license holder, nothing to bore a rider looking for a Sunday cruise either.

On the spec sheet, the Suzuki C 800 Intruder develops 53 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 67.7 Nm of torque available from just 4,000 rpm. These aren't numbers that set lap records trembling, but they're more than enough for relaxed road use. The V-twin is geared long, pulls steadily, and the shaft drive paired with a 5-speed gearbox delivers a level of riding convenience that chain-lube enthusiasts can only envy. Fuel injection replaced carburetors long ago, and the engine runs clean, flexible, and free of surging. Top speed reaches 160 km/h, placing this machine squarely in the category of mid-displacement customs built for pleasure, not performance.
The styling remains one of this Intruder's genuine strengths. The wraparound fenders, tastefully measured chrome accents, LED taillight, and tank-integrated instrumentation create a cohesive package — almost refined for the segment. Alongside an aging Yamaha XVS 650 Dragstar or the more common Honda VT 750 Shadow, the C 800 stands out through its balanced proportions. It doesn't play the muscle bike card like its cousin the M 800 — it favors restraint instead. And it suits her well.
Then comes the sore point: 277 kg wet on the scales. For an 800 cc custom, that's heavy. Very heavy. Combined with a 130/90-16 front tire, low-speed maneuverability requires an adjustment period, especially in the city. Tight U-turns are not its forte. Braking, handled by a single 300 mm front disc and a rear drum, gets the job done without enthusiasm. A dual-disc setup, or at the very least a four-piston caliper, would have been reassuring under hard braking. The 700 mm seat height partially compensates: feet plant firmly on the ground, the footboards are well positioned, and the seating inspires confidence even for shorter riders.
Priced at €8,899 in 2012, the Suzuki C 800 Intruder targeted riders who want to go custom without breaking the bank or spending their weekends maintaining temperamental mechanicals. Today, the Suzuki C 800 Intruder can be found on the used market at prices that make it even more compelling, including model years through the Suzuki C 800 Intruder 2018. It's a touring machine, an honest cruiser that never pretends to be something it's not. For the patient rider, the one who prefers the rhythm of a country road to the rush of a ring road, it remains a solid choice. Provided you're willing to live with its extra weight.
