Overview
Who still remembers that the 750cc sportbike segment once thrilled an entire generation of riders? In 2015, Suzuki attempts to reignite the flame with this GSX-R 750 SE, a special edition limited to 25 units for the French market. It's a bold gamble in a context where supersports are struggling to find buyers, squeezed between increasingly powerful roadsters and electronics-laden 1000cc machines hogging the spotlight.

Make no mistake, this SE is not merely a fresh coat of paint on a model nearing the end of its run. The machine rolls off the Hamamatsu production line wearing a red and black livery that borrows its design cues from the Hayabusa SE. Red pinstripes on the rims, matching lettering on the radially-mounted Brembo monoblock calipers, red anodized fork tube caps, steering nut and chain adjuster in a copper-gold finish. A red seat completes the picture. To enjoy this wardrobe, you'll need to part with €12,799, a noticeable premium over the standard version. The price tag is justified mainly by the machine's rarity, not by any technical upgrade.
Beneath the bodywork lies the 750cc inline four-cylinder engine, set at a 12.5:1 compression ratio with a bore and stroke of 70 x 48.7 mm. The 148 horsepower delivered at 13,200 rpm and 86.3 Nm of torque at 11,200 rpm make for a powerplant that loves to rev and rewards the rider willing to chase it into the upper reaches of the tachometer. The six-speed gearbox shifts precisely, and the chain drive remains a classic, effective setup. At 190 kg wet with a 17-litre tank, the power-to-weight ratio holds its own against a Kawasaki ZX-6R or a Yamaha YZF-R6 of the same era.
The twin-spar perimeter aluminium frame houses a 43 mm inverted fork offering 120 mm of travel at the front and a mono-shock with 130 mm at the rear. Braking duties up front are handled by two 310 mm Brembo discs gripped by four-piston calipers, while a single 220 mm disc manages the rear. On the electronics front, Suzuki plays the minimalist card: an electronic steering damper, the S-DMS system offering two fuel injection maps, and a slipper clutch. No traction control, no sophisticated riding modes. The GSX-R 750 SE trusts the rider, giving it a raw character that purists love but that may put off those who've grown accustomed to the safety nets of more modern machinery. The seat height at 810 mm and tyres in 120/70-17 and 180/55-17 round out a package built for the track as much as the road, with a claimed top speed of 270 km/h.
This special edition targets a very specific audience: savvy collectors, devotees of the GSX-R lineage, or riders seeking a nimble, lightweight sportbike without the electronic complexity of modern superbikes. The 750 occupies a niche that no one truly defends anymore, wedged between the 600s and the 1000cc class. That's precisely what makes this SE so endearing. It embodies a mechanical philosophy on the verge of extinction, one where rider skill takes precedence over algorithms. That said, 25 units for France is more of a marketing move than a genuine commercial offensive. Suzuki knows it, and this SE has the merit of honesty: it doesn't claim to revolutionize the segment — it gives it one last lap of honour in full dress.
