Overview
Like Ducati, MV-Agusta maintains a very thin line between its production sportbikes and competition machines. At Schiranna, one of the F4 is just a few turns of a screwdriver away from becoming a Superbike: the RC. The pinnacle of the brand, this sublime machine maintains the fantasy for 2019 with a few refinements. The ultimate F4 1000 Reparto Corse? Not far, in any case.
Shaped like a sprinter, sharp, and lively at any angle, the F4 RC continues to honor MV-Agusta’s sporting tradition. The livery remains based on the machine entered in WSBK, with Jordi Torres during the 2018 season. A small update is presented with a reworked livery featuring a black scheme and updated sponsor logos. The brand’s pride bears the race number: a symbolic 37, the number of world championship titles won by the brand... a long time ago.
The four-cylinder engine delights thrill-seeking enthusiasts. With 205 horsepower, the Italian engine remains among the most powerful production mechanics. One of the features of the RC edition is the presence of a kit for increased performance. Once installed, the power increases by 7 horsepower and reaches a terrifying 212 horsepower. All channeled by sophisticated onboard electronics. The rider can obviously enjoy a good dose of parameterization, especially in User riding mode, the most customizable of the 4 maps. The ELDOR platform allows fine-tuning of throttle sensitivity (*), engine behavior (*), maximum torque, engine braking level (*), rev limiter (*), and 8-level traction control. The other modes, Normal – Sport – Rain, simplify settings with their own programs. The inertial platform optimizes the function of the battery. Gear changes in a flash are commanded via the EAS 2.0 shifter, active on upshifts and downshifts. (*) Choice of Normal, Rain or Sport.
The F4 relies on its eternal frame mixing aluminum side plates and a steel Chrome-Molybdène tubular trellis. Designed for surgical use, it pushes refinement to offer height adjustment of the swingarm pivot point and top-of-the-line suspension. From Öhlins, superb and very effective, composed of a 43 mm NIX 30 inverted fork and a TTX 36 shock absorber; fully adjustable, of course. A steering damper is present, also adjustable. The braking is among the most formidable you can find. A beautiful Brembo setup, enough to mount a rocket tank. The 320 mm front discs will be gripped by radial-mounted monoblock 'GP' calipers. The action is commanded by a radial master cylinder and the monitoring of a Bosch 9+ ABS acting on the rear wheel lift control. On the rear, a 210 mm disc with a 4-piston Nissin caliper.
The bodywork of this F4 extensively uses carbon fiber. This allows both to save weight and to play on the high-end appearance of the machine. The RC is proud of its image as much as its plastics, and even allows itself to display two different weights depending on the type of outing. In road mode, it weighs 183 kilograms dry. But once the special parts are installed and the desire for track use, it drops to 175 kilograms. And where are the parts? In a beautiful wooden box where a few dozen components nest, including the full SC Project titanium exhaust system, a specific ECU, lightweight hardware, other carbon parts, a seat cover, and other racing elements. A protective cover and a certificate of authenticity accompany this exclusive motorcycle. A truly beautiful tool for a few wealthy enthusiasts who will break the bank. Or for those who could not afford the F4 Claudio cousin. This Italian stunner is expected to be produced in 250 copies (to be confirmed).
