Overview

The fork stanchions gaze at you! Their aluminum shimmers with shards of light, then their tattoo appears like the emblem of a clan. Their words, this claw mark, this belonging, these are the symbols of a tribute that MV-Agusta celebrates for 2025. This year, the firm is 80 years old.

For all of us (including myself) who pronounce MV as if spelling out these two letters, the inscription teaches us to enunciate it correctly, in the Italian way: emmevi! Beneath that, Ottantesimo simply means eighty, in obvious reference to the brand’s anniversary. And those few numbers? The serial number of this batch, limited to 500 F3 RR units.

The Varese sportbike has decided to pursue two objectives this year: the SuperSport with the “Competizione” version; and the tribute, with this Ottantesimo. With its historic red and gray “Ago” color scheme, it highlights MV’s victory-rich past and keeps the memory of the first F4 alive. Sleek, smooth, exciting, tense, the F3 is a pure beauty, only ionized by aerodynamic appendages.

To ensure a bridge between 1945 and this commemorative model, the MV logo has been redesigned, drawing heavily on the very first emblem. It is found on the tank and front mudguard. The rear fairing prefers to retain the contemporary badge.

Like the vast majority of F3 800 models declined in special editions, the Ottantesimo is accompanied by the traditional dedicated kit including a matching passenger seat cowl, a CNC-machined tank cap, and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust. An appendage far from being insignificant: it boosts the 3-cylinder engine from 147 hp to 155 hp while the motorcycle’s weight drops by 8 kilos.

Slovenian efficiency is undeniable, but before that, the Italian engine received a few modifications to meet Euro5+ standards; without impacting peak torque and power. Furthermore, a new clutch allows for a 50% reduction in lever effort, according to the manufacturer.

More ease that does not detract from the sportiness of this track bike. An F3 also features Stylema brakes to tame speed, adjustable suspension all around, electronics at every level, and a superb monobrach. An RR is materialized by fairing panels, wings, and a carbon fiber front mudguard.

Therefore, the Ottantesimo collection honors the 80 years of MV-Agusta. Everything began in ’45, after the war? No, Count Agusta first created an aviation factory. Rotary-wing enthusiasts of the second half of the 20th century will quickly associate this name with certain helicopters. In 1943, the country was in a worrying state. Domenico Agusta, the Count’s son, set up what was needed to launch Meccanica Verghera, and a certain small 98 cm3 engine was ready for production. But the Germans occupied the factory, and it was better to stop everything and hide it all.

Work resumed in mid-1944, and the company was born in January 1945. A small, inexpensive vehicle was then needed to restart travel within the country, where everything was to be rebuilt. This will be the MV 98 velocipede, to which a special series of Superveloce paid tribute in 2024. Since then, the small company from Varese has marked people's minds in many ways until today.
