Overview
Three cylinders, 150 horsepower, 168 kg dry and only 350 units produced: the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RC sets its terms of entry with the elegance of an uppercut. At MV, the Reparto Corse suffix has become almost standard practice. After the F4, F3, Dragster and Turismo Veloce, it's the turn of the most ferocious roadster in the lineup to receive the treatment. One could cry foul at the inflation of limited editions, but when the result is this accomplished, it's hard not to enjoy it.

Let's start with what catches the eye before you even turn the key. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RC sports the racing livery directly inspired by the brand's Superbike program. Red, silver, black: the trio snaps like an Italian flag in the wind at Monza. The carbon fiber parts (front and rear fenders, instrument visor, tank covers) and the SC Project titanium exhaust aren't there for show. They help keep the weight down to 168 kg dry, a figure that would put more than a few pure sportbikes to shame. The two-tone seat and the wooden crate delivered with the racing kit add a touch of transalpine craftsmanship that partly justifies the 20,190-euro entry ticket.
Beneath the tank, the 798 cc inline three-cylinder runs like clockwork. In standard configuration, the Brutale RR already claims 140 horsepower. The RC version pushes it to 150 hp at 13,100 rpm thanks to the SC Project exhaust system and a dedicated ECU, both delivered in the famous kit. Torque climbs to 86 Nm at 10,100 rpm, enough to catapult the whole package toward an announced top speed of 245 km/h. On paper, this triple plays in the same league as certain big-bore machines. Against a Triumph Street Triple RS or a Yamaha MT-09 SP, the MV boasts superior horsepower, but also a price tag twice as high. The price-to-performance ratio is clearly not its main selling point. What you're buying here is prestige, exclusivity, and a three-cylinder soundtrack that belongs to Varese alone.
The chassis carries over the RR's foundation: a mixed steel trellis frame with aluminum plates, an adjustable Marzocchi inverted fork with rebound, compression and preload adjustment, and a progressive Sachs rear shock. The short 1,380 mm wheelbase and the seat perched at 810 mm betray sporty intentions. Brembo radial-mount brake calipers, ABS, traction control, anti-stoppie, a bidirectional quickshifter and multiple ride maps complete an electronic arsenal worthy of a track machine. The experienced rider will find plenty to fine-tune their toy. Beginners, on the other hand, would be wise to look elsewhere: with a 13.3:1 compression ratio and an engine that only truly comes alive above 9,000 rpm, the RC doesn't forgive approximation. It's worth noting that the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RC 2019 and MV Agusta Brutale 800 RC 2020 model years extended the adventure with minor evolutions, proof that the recipe found its audience among collectors and demanding riders.
At its core, this Brutale RC perfectly embodies the MV Agusta paradox: a motorcycle built with the care of a Swiss watchmaker, sold at the price of a German sedan, and one that turns you into a hooligan the moment you slot it into first gear. It's neither the most versatile nor the most accessible in its class. But when you catch your reflection in a shop window, the three-cylinder rumbling between your knees and the serial number engraved on the triple clamp, you understand that the 350 lucky few who signed the purchase order probably don't regret a thing.
