Overview
MV Agusta has multiplied the RC versions of its models to the point where it’s no longer a special series but... a trim level. Very common in the automotive world, this "segmentation" is less prevalent here. However, it must be said that this racing livery is so pleasing that the brand finds it difficult to resist the urge to apply it to all its models. Following the F4, F3, Dragster and Turismo Veloce, the powerful 800 Brutale RR is also immersed in the Reparto Corse mix. For a lively and tenacious result. Be warned, it opens your eyes and rattles the connecting rods.
There’s no need to revisit the aesthetics of the Brutale. It’s the first thing that stops you, whether online, in magazines or at dealerships. In this fierce, even blistering livery, the machine fully reveals its demonic roadster character. A mid-sized displacement engine, yet more powerful than some 1000s, it certainly makes a statement. Dressed in the colors of the motorcycle entered in the World Superbike championship, it exudes the aura of an over-revved wild beast. Discretion is impossible, immediate attention is guaranteed. And once the 3-cylinder is warm, what starts as a bit of fun can quickly turn into a PlayStation-style Wipeout.
Well-proportioned on the standard 800 Brutale, the engine becomes more demanding on the RR. Its 140 horsepower allows for plenty of spirited riding. On the RC, this engine is identical but supplied with a beautiful box containing an SC Project exhaust system and a specific engine ECU. Once everything is installed, 150 horsepower are ready to unleash. A fine herd, which could almost challenge the 1090 RR. Almost, I said. The big sister’s frame is of a different caliber. But whatever the model, you’re guaranteed to have a good time. On the 800 Brutale, the RC’s frame is identical to the RR’s. The mixed trellis tubular/aluminum plate frame will ensure rigidity at a sporty level. More sophisticated suspension will allow for fine-tuning of handling. Radial Brembo brakes, ABS, traction control, anti-stoppie, up/down shifter, multiple injection maps – the list allows you to confidently head towards a spirited ride.
But the Brutale RC is not just about power. It’s also a series of beautiful parts to please everyone. There’s titanium for the exhaust; carbon fiber for the rear mudguard, part of the front mudguard, the visor above the dashboard and the side covers of the dashboard on the fuel tank; superb creation treatment for the two-tone seat; and a wooden crate containing the racing kit. This kit contains the aforementioned parts to boost the engine (exhaust + ECU) as well as a protective cover, Ergal brake and clutch levers and a certificate of authenticity. As with any limited series, the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RC will be produced in limited numbers. 250 copies will leave Varese. The most difficult thing won’t be to acquire them, but to remain calm on the handlebars of such a level of provocation on a roadster.
