Overview

The 790 Adventure gained prominence in 2025. It replaced the 890, inheriting its suspension components. The APEX inverted fork can now be adjusted for compression and rebound, each leg handling a separate function. The shock absorber, for its part, has preload and rebound adjustment.

The gap will now be significantly larger between the models: a 790 a bit more robust but capped at 94 horsepower, and an 890 Adv R with 11 more horsepower, greater off-road capabilities, and a much higher price tag.

This evolution is now an 890 with a different engine. The former 799 cm3 received a series of optimizations in 2023: a new airbox, 20% increased inertia, a more efficient knock sensor (also allowing for a lower octane fuel), a new exhaust, and a silencer allow the twin to validate for a new career. Its slipper clutch has also been reinforced. Regarding Euro5+, the twin swallows it without problems.

As a result, it hasn't changed in terms of power. Still 95 horsepower, accompanied by a good helping hand of 8.9 mkg. Already a serious punch, capable of suiting many situations. Above all, by being limited to 70 kW, the 790 Adventure can be converted to the A2 restriction, and attract new license holders. Something the 890 R does not allow. The latter does not suffer from this, as its performance plays in a different league. With its 105 horsepower and torque exceeding 10 mkg, the "mid-large" Adv provides a reinforced boost.

The 790 also performs very well with its more affordable price. But this is only slightly attributable to the difference in displacement. The main reason is motherhood. The 890s are manufactured in Austria / the 790s are manufactured in China, at partner CF Moto. KTM states that the manufacturing process is supervised by its own personnel, directly on site; to reassure about quality. There's nothing really new about this geographical transfer. A whole host of machines are manufactured in China, Thailand or countries in that region. Especially small displacements; but with the relocation of KTM and BMW's 800 and 900 blocks, a gap has opened…

False twins but true sisters. The 790 will ride with the same tubular trellis frame as the ex-890, as well as its spoked rims, its large 20-liter tank, its 320 mm brake discs with 4-piston J.Juan radial calipers, and its suspension. The suspensions travel over 200 mm.

No restraint on the electronic side, uniformly shared: ABS and responsive cornering traction control, rear switchable anti-lock, anti-wheeling and 3 Riding Modes Street – Rain - Offroad (+ Rally optional). This can be complemented by cruise control and an Up&Down shifter; optional and available for the first 1500 kilometers to taste their comfort. You can also let loose on the connectivity module, to enjoy a gateway with the smartphone and thus manage music, calls and notifications.
