Overview
Do you remember the first time you saw a scrambler? That blend of raw nostalgia and urban agility that promised to be able to run on a dirt track after crossing the city. The Ducati Scrambler 800 Desert Sled, in its 2021 Fasthouse version, pushes this concept a step further, or rather, a step further west. It’s not just a chic custom motorcycle; it literally bears an authentication plate on its frame that recalls a victory in the Nevada desert. It's a limited series of 800 units, a number that plays with its 803 cm3 displacement, and it comes with a story attached to its handlebars.

Technically, it remains faithful to the standard Desert Sled. The 90° L-twin, that old Ducati soldier, delivers its 73 horsepower at 8250 rpm and its 65.7 Nm of torque at 5750 rpm. It’s not a brute power machine, but an engine that knows how to be elastic and playful. The announced weight of 209 kg fully fueled is respectable for this category, but the 860 mm seat height imposes a stature. It’s not for short legs. The equipment is serious: a 46 mm inverted fork and a single shock absorber offering 200 mm of travel each, Brembo brakes with a 330 mm radial disc at the front, and Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires in 120/70-19 and 170/60-17 sizes. It’s a motorcycle that has the means to fulfill its trail ambitions, much more than a simple street scrambler.
But here, the essence is in the spirit. This Fasthouse edition celebrates the victory of a prepared Scrambler, ridden by Jordan Graham, in the Hooligan category of the Mint 400, this legendary Californian desert race born in 1968. The decoration is specific: red frame, black elements, tank with gray stripes. It doesn’t transform the motorcycle into a pure competition machine – you wouldn’t go and run 400 miles in the Mojave with it in stock – but it injects a dose of American folklore and off-road credibility. It’s a piece of history mounted on wheels.
Compared to more urban scramblers or more specialized trails, the Desert Sled Fasthouse occupies a unique niche. It is more capable and more serious off-road than a Scrambler Icon, thanks to its suspension and tires, but it remains lighter and more playful than a true adventure trail. Its 13-liter tank and top speed of around 180 km/h position it as a motorcycle for getaways, country roads, and light rallies. It targets the rider who wants a Ducati with an authentic character, a touch of roughness, and a story to tell, without necessarily wanting to embark on an extreme expedition.
At a price of 12,290 euros, it’s not cheap. It’s a collector's item, a limited tribute. Its audience? The Ducati enthusiast who already has a scrambler heart but dreams of sand and American folklore, the rider who values history and authenticity as much as performance. It’s not the most versatile or powerful motorcycle, but it’s probably the Scrambler that has the most to say. And sometimes, on a motorcycle, it’s this voice, this story scratched on the frame, that makes all the difference between a simple vehicle and a road companion.
