Overview

Thirty years. Thirty years that the Ninja lineage has carved its path on circuits and in the minds of pure sportbike enthusiasts. To celebrate this anniversary, Kawasaki hasn’t released a simple commemorative sticker: the 2015 ZX-10R features a vibrant racing livery, and the Performance version pushes the concept even further with a pack of accessories that transforms the machine into something seriously impressive.

Kawasaki 1000 ZX-10R 30ème anniversaire Performance

Seriously impressive, the word is weak. Behind this perimeter double-beam aluminum frame lies an inline four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 998 cc, delivering 200 horsepower at 13,000 rpm, with a torque of 114.7 Nm available at 11,500 rpm. For 200 kilograms fully fueled, the equation is brutal. The Yamaha R1 and the Ducati Panigale play in the same league, but the Kawasaki has a Superbike track record that few can contest: the ZX-10R doesn’t just claim domination, it has proven it on race tracks around the world.

The Performance pack justifies its additional 1,100 euros with a short Akrapovic titanium exhaust, the weight saving of which reaches 1.2 kilograms compared to the original. This is not insignificant on a machine where every gram counts, and the sound liberation that accompanies the power and torque gain is worth the investment alone. The carbon fiber breather and heat shield complete the picture with a visual consistency that is appreciated. The matching seat cover completes the picture, and the adhesive tank protectors protect the finish from scratches from riding gear during inclines and declines. The double-bubble windshield, for its part, noticeably improves aerodynamic protection as the speedometer climbs towards the advertised 300 km/h.

This type of motorcycle is aimed at an audience that knows what it’s doing. The 813 mm seat height and radical riding position immediately eliminate inexperienced candidates. On the road, the ZX-10R demands respect and method; on the track, it reveals why Kawasaki can afford to play in the yard of the major sports manufacturers. At 17,449 euros in Performance version, the bill is substantial, but consistent with the level of performance and the richness of the equipment offered. For track riders looking for a road-homologated base with immediate development potential, the addition takes on a whole new meaning.
