Overview
Do you remember that feeling of a four-cylinder engine breathing freely, without the strident nervousness of modern mechanics? In 2009, while everyone was chasing horsepower and electronic aids, Honda dared to take a step to the side, or rather a calculated step back. The CB1300S ABS is this assumed proposition: a 1284 cm³ machine that openly displays its 100 horsepower and its substantial torque of 116.7 Nm, all wrapped in a silhouette that clicks like a revival of the 80s. It’s not a motorcycle that appears out of nowhere; it’s an active tribute to the legendary CB1100R Bol d’or, and the result is much more than a simple exercise in style.

Under this half-fairing with evocative colors lies a known and proven mechanical base. The large inline four, paired with a five-speed gearbox, does not aim for extreme performance but for abundance. From 5500 rpm, the torque is there, ample and linear, propelling the 269 kg fully fueled with the authority of a locomotive. On the highway, the fairing offers correct protection, even if beyond 130 km/h, taller riders begin to feel some turbulence. The soul of this Honda CB1300S ABS lies elsewhere: in the poised rumble of a generous engine, in the comfort of its wide seat and its supple suspension, designed to swallow up kilometers without fatigue. The two small glove boxes integrated into the fairing are the symbol of this practical and serene touring philosophy.
Faced with the competition of the time, such as the Kawasaki ZRX1200R or the Suzuki GSX1400, the Honda stands out with this nostalgic aesthetic bias and this integrated fairing. It is neither the most powerful nor the lightest, but it possesses a unique character. On winding roads, it surprises with its balance. The dual cradle frame handles its weight well, offering reassuring stability, and the brakes, with their gold calipers and ABS, are powerful and progressive. You don’t scrape your knee in corners, you savor them with a certain nobility. It’s a machine for those who prioritize travel over attack, the sensation of available power at the throttle over the pursuit of the stopwatch.
Who is it for today? For the touring rider looking for a charismatic, comfortable motorcycle with a real temperament, without the complexity of hyper-technological models. Its price, slightly above 10,000 euros at the time, was justified by careful finishing and this unique equipment in the category. The drawback? This considerable weight that is felt during handling and this feeling, once underway, that a little more aerodynamic protection would not have been refused. But perhaps that’s the price to pay for such a personality. The CB1300S ABS is not a motorcycle for everyone; it’s an object of affection for those who still believe that the pleasure of motorcycling comes from mechanical generosity and timeless style. One last hat tip, before the world tips definitively elsewhere.
