Overview
What if the true charm of a Harley lay in its rebellious side? In 2007, the Nightster wasn't a Sportster that played delicate. It played the brute, with a deliberately stripped-down look reminiscent of post-war bobbers. Low seat at 678 mm, short suspension, an omnipresent black that avoids chrome: it takes to the road with a brawler's attitude. It's not a machine that seeks to seduce, it imposes its style.

Technically, it is based on the solid foundations of the Sportster. Its 1202 cm³ V-twin engine remains an animal at low revs, with 103 Nm of torque available from 3200 rpm. The power of 75 horsepower at 6000 rpm is not a staggering figure, but it is sufficient to propel its 260 kg fully fueled to a top speed of approximately 170 km/h. The belt drive and five-speed gearbox are reliable. What strikes you is its small 12.5-liter tank, a truncated rear fender, and details like the offset license plate holder or the headlight integrated into the turn signals. It aims to be radical.
Compared to a standard Sportster, the Nightster sacrifices some versatility for looks. The reduced suspension and compact ergonomics will not please long-distance riders. It rather targets those looking for an urban machine with a defined temperament, a beginner who wants a Harley with immediate character, or the follower of the custom style without wanting to touch the mechanics. The dual-disc front and single rear braking system is adequate for its use, but does not rival that of Japanese sportbikes.
Its true strength is raw emotion. The twin vibrates, growls with its specific exhausts, and transmits a sensation of living mechanics that many Asian competitors have filtered. At €9995 at the time, it offered a less conventional entry into the Harley world. It was not the most comfortable, nor the fastest, nor the most practical. But it was one of the most charismatic. A motorcycle that is chosen with the heart, when the brain has already said no.
