Overview
The Road Glide Limited is born to challenge roads – whether they are longer than its imagination. Whatever the generation, this large, heavy American touring motorcycle dreams only of journeys. To the point that its heart grows, overflows, and devours cubic centimeters. Now, its silhouette finally adopts the stellar style initiated in 2023.
The Limited uses the Road Glide “bagger” as a base and adds a series of elements to offer more comfort and protection. Technically, it’s a Road Glide with the Tour-Pak (of a new generation), fairing skirts, crash bars, a taller windshield, different rims, additional footrests, and a better seat for the passenger – or a Street Glide Limited which exchanges its Batwing head fairing for an imposing Shark Nose. Road Glide and Street Glide have always spent their lives promoting a different face on the same body.
The change from one generation to the next allows a better understanding of the evolution of this dynasty. The previous Road Glide Limited stopped its career in 2024. It’s not so long ago, and yet it looks very dated compared to its descendant. The space-inspired headlight design, the low-angle fairing, and the lightweight fender bring a much more modern look. It’s even more striking when riding where the immense 12.3-inch Skyline screen catapults the Road Glide Limited into another dimension, full digital. A clean environment that contrasts sharply with the outdated arrangement of the double speedometer topped with the Boom Box system.
A breath of modernity is found in the powertrain. Harley shocks with parsimony. It retains the large air-cooled twin (and a little water for the cylinder heads), preserves the heritage and its image, then increases the displacement, adds variable valve timing, optimizes the intake and exhaust, increases the alternator capacity, and angles it at 45° (the angle of the V).
The result is impactful: from 87 horsepower, this tourer goes to 107 horsepower. With 14% more power, the twin is in good health. And adds a good dose of torque with 17.8 Nm in the arms; the 114cc block delivered 16.3. Abuse of displacement is almost a mantra at Harley. One wonders if Kawasaki didn’t end up being right too soon with its VN 2000, its enormous block, and values almost similar to that of the Milwaukee-Eight ‘ricain.
Although anecdotal on a machine weighing over 400 kg, note the effort of a 5.9 kg weight reduction. The rear suspension gains comfort with the appearance of a remote dial in front of the left saddlebag for preload adjustment; and in efficiency with the Showa emulsion technology on both shock absorbers instead of one on the old Road Glide (incredible this stinginess on a motorcycle that cost 34,000 euros).
The electronics are stepped up a notch with the large TFT screen but no upgrades are reported on the riding aids. What’s the point anyway, given the already extensive array?! Between the throttle and the rear wheel, the job will be supervised by 4 Riding Modes (Road / Sport / Rain / customizable), traction control and engine torque feedback sensitive to angle, an ABCornering, a front / rear linked braking system, hill start assist and tire pressure monitoring.
Let them work, take the road and cradle the asphalt with the breathing of the twin or the 200-watt Rockford Fosgate sound system balanced in 4 speakers. The onboard system provides Bluetooth connectivity to pair the phone, Wi-Fi to update, a GPS navigator, voice recognition, and of course all onboard information (speed, fuel, trip, RPM, etc.).
It’s a new life for the Road Glide Limited. Remodeled, revitalized, technological and proud, it only conceives of facing endless roads or its sister Street Glide Limited. Of course, it costs a premium; that’s also the American spirit.
