Overview
You wonder what a real custom is, without frills or artifice? The 2008 Street Bob answers with a deep growl. It’s a raw declaration, a return to the bobber roots where only the essentials count: the engine, the road, and a somewhat selfish feeling of freedom. The passenger? Forgotten, with its seat removed. The chrome? Reduced to the bare minimum. Here is a Harley-Davidson Dyna that embraces its stripped-down character, with a high handlebar, a solo seat at 68 centimeters, and spoked wheels that smell of authenticity. It’s pure 1950s adventurer spirit, but with the technical baggage of the 21st century.

Under the 18-liter tank beats the heart of the beast: the Twin Cam 96 of 1584 cm3. Compared to the old 88, it’s day and night. You gain generosity, with 73 horsepower that isn’t really the subject, and a torque of 123 Newton meters that, it, totally is. Available from low revs, it pulls this mass of over 300 kilos fully fueled with disarming nonchalance. The six-speed gearbox is precise, the belt drive silent, and this mechanics is surprisingly accessible. Despite its imposing appearance and its wheelbase of 163 cm, the Street Bob is ridden with surprising ease. The 49 mm fork and rear suspensions swallow the tarmac without drama, until the footpegs remind, rather early, of the ground clearance limits. It’s a motorcycle to ride cool, not to chase the lean angle.
Just so, on the braking, we remain in the "cool" mindset. One disc at the front, one at the rear, it does the job without sporty pretensions. You have to anticipate, but it is consistent with the style of ride that this machine offers. This is its true public: the globetrotter who seeks a presence, a sound and an inimitable style, without breaking the bank on options. At 13,600 euros at the time, it positioned itself as the entry point to the Dyna family. A price that was justified by a sober finish, but above all made it a perfect blank canvas. The Street Bob is not a finished motorcycle, it is an excellence customization base. For those who want an authentic Harley, without superflu, and ready to be personalized to infinity, it was an immediate crush. For those looking for comfort or pure performance, move along. Here, we first sell a dream and character, on the back of a large V-twin.
