Overview
What does a true modern custom motorcycle need to offer? No gadgets, no superfluous additions, just the raw essence of the bike. The 2007 Harley-Davidson Dyna Street Bob answers this question with an almost provocative frankness. It draws its inspiration from the bobbers of the 1950s, those machines where everything that wasn't strictly necessary to go faster and freer was removed. The FXDBI is a direct heir: ultra-low solo seat at 681 mm, ape hanger-style handlebars, minimalist turn signals, enveloping rear fender, and spoked wheels. Passenger accommodation is an option you’ve decidedly forgotten, as its footpegs have disappeared. It's a machine for one, a declaration of independence on two wheels.

However, the mechanics are not those of the past. It houses the famous Twin Cam 96, a 1584 cm3 V2 that replaces the old 88. With 73 horsepower and, above all, a torque of 124.8 Nm available from 3000 rpm, it is more generous, more responsive. This evolution is palpable from the first ride. The engine is the centerpiece, the raison d'être of this motorcycle. It propels a revised Dyna frame and a 49 mm fork, while a smoother clutch facilitates maneuvers. Despite its affirmed weight of over 300 kg fully fueled and its wheelbase of 1631 mm, the Street Bob reveals a surprising agility. The large handlebars, which seem to promise laborious maneuvers, actually offer precise control. It allows itself to be directed with a docility that invites play, until the footpegs remind you, with a scraping sound, of its ground clearance of 142 mm. The brakes, a single disc at the front and rear, are not sporting weapons but are sufficient for the pace and use of a cruiser.
Compared to its competitors in the custom world, the Street Bob stands out with its radical commitment to simplicity. It doesn’t seek to flatter with complete equipment, but with a strong identity. Its price of 13600 euros at the time was an argument for entering the Dyna family, but it requires a certain state of mind. It is not a motorcycle for the beginner seeking ease, nor for the touring rider needing comfort and capacity. It targets the rider who wants an authentic base, a sober and solid platform on which to build their own vision. Moderate consumption, around 4.4 liters per hundred kilometers, and a top speed of approximately 160 km/h show that it is made for the pleasure of riding, not for records.
Ultimately, the 2007 Street Bob is a motorcycle with character. It demands from its rider an adherence to its concept: accepting compromises on comfort, modern safety, and practicality to embrace a pure sensation of freedom and personalization. Its flaws are its qualities, because they define its territory. It is a custom for those who understand that the essential, sometimes, is found in what is removed, not in what is added.
