Overview
This is certainly the motorcycle that best symbolizes the Harley spirit. Presented in the 1990s, the "big" bike is a hymn to the rebellious post-war era. As its name suggests, everything is imposing on the Fat Boy: wheels (beautiful spoked rims), forks, headlight assembly; a true man's bike. The cinema has also made it legendary: it is nothing less than Schwarzenegger's mount in Terminator 2. Born a quarter of a century ago with the 1340, this Softail has seen a host of twins up to the peak of this 1690 High Output. Even more power, bulk, and torque. Its peak of 13.4 ft-lbs is reached at 3250 rpm. The FLSTF is equipped with a handlebar with a curvature optimized for more comfort and better ergonomics.
For riding and comfort, a wide and low handlebar (like the footpegs), a seat close to the cylinder heads; for the eye, authentic aesthetics and gleaming chrome - a true Softail with its faux rigid frame and a pure Harley. The adoption of the 103 B twin cylinder corresponds more than ever to this large custom. Muscle hidden in metal, erupting with every demand, and vibrations calmed thanks to a balance shaft. The beauty from Milwaukee has long since offered itself more rigor in road holding, as early as 2000. Stiffer rear shocks since the move to the 1450 engine have improved passage over small bumps, and better brakes significantly calm the beast. A 200 mm rear tire does not facilitate agility but gives even more "Fat" to the "Boy." Docile thanks to its wide and larger handlebar (which integrates the wiring), you have to know how to be reasonable because too much lean quickly grinds down the wide footpegs. Like almost all Harley-Davidson models, the Fat Boy is equipped with ABS as standard. In 2015, The Motor Company reinforces the will and capabilities of the braking system. The front disc widens from 11.5 to 11.8 inches. The caliper and master cylinder are redesigned, the latter also benefiting from a design improving performance. With the high-friction material of the pads, the lever effort is reduced almost in half. Harley announces 40% less effort to achieve optimal braking.
