Overview
What does a stripped-down icon look like? Ask Harley-Davidson, and they’ll show you this 2009 Electra Glide Standard. Within the Touring family, the Ultra Classic is the air-conditioned cruise ship with a pool and casino. Here, a few cabins have been removed, but the flagship remains recognizable. The rigid saddlebags, the unwavering triple headlight, the thick seat like a living room sofa are retained. The monumental top case and leg deflectors are lost, giving the beast a slightly less massive silhouette, almost dynamic. Almost. Because with its 368 kilograms and a full wallet, we're not talking about a sportbike. Docking still requires a thoughtful maneuver, especially with a seat height of 71.5 cm that can be intimidating.

The heart of the machine is still this big Twin Cam 96 of 1584 cm3. With 71 horsepower, the figures will make a Japanese competitor smile. But the Harley engine is not just a specification sheet. Its torque of 131 Nm available from 3500 rpm, this generous surge and these vibrations charged with emotion make it a unique travel companion. It propels this giant to an honorable 160 km/h, with a confidence that makes you forget the purely track performance. The real revolution for this generation lies in the chassis. A new frame, 20% stiffer with fewer parts, a modified swingarm, a 17-inch front wheel and reworked suspensions. Result? The beast gains precision, responds better to the rider's demands without sacrificing the soft comfort that makes its reputation.
Who is this Standard for? For the pure and hard road warrior who wants the essence of the Electra Glide without the ostentation – and the price – of the Ultra Classic. At nearly €19,000, it remains an investment, but the price difference with its big sister largely justifies the few missing features for those who prioritize the raw experience. It still includes ABS and electronic throttle as standard, significant safety arguments on a machine of this size. It is the streamlined version of a legend, for those who want travel in its purest form, without frills, carried by the characteristic rumble of the V-Twin and the comfort of a proven platform. It won't make you forget a BMW R 1200 RT in terms of agility or efficiency, but it offers something inimitable: being at the controls of a myth.
