Overview
Touring, Softail, Dyna, V-Rod... Many members of the various Harley-Davidson families have passed through the hands of the CVO workshops. Now it's the Trikes' turn to join the dance. From an unusual machine, it becomes a bourgeois nonconformist. Its Ultra Limited front opens the way to a boat-like hull as spacious as a castle armchair. Exceptional by its conception, it becomes even more so when displaying the Custom Vehicle Operations badge.
A Harley is first and foremost recognizable by its engine. A CVO is enjoyed with the largest block from the parent company. The Milwaukee Eight delivers power, torque, and vocals with a displacement pushed to 1923 cm3. Enormous, simply; with a surge of 17.4 mkg at 3750 rpm as a bonus. In America, it's nicknamed 117 ci. An emblem worthy of a spear and as heavy as a shield. Inside, it's 8 valves and specific camshafts that churn, while liquid flow cools the most strategic parts. Outside, only the 117 badge reveals its size. But red stripes under the valve covers assert its prestige mark without ambiguity.
Consequently, even though the CVO Tri Glide weighs almost 600 kilos, the twin’s thrust will hardly struggle to move it. In case the load becomes delicate to manage (climatic or road hazards), Harley has installed the Reflex Defensive Rider Systems. A series of driving assistance systems proving to be very helpful. These RDRS consist of an improved cornering electronic braking system (C-ELB), an improved cornering ABS (C-ABS), an improved cornering traction control (C-TCS), a cornering residual torque anti-dribble system (C-DSCS) and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Outside these safety nets, this abundance from Wisconsin entrusts its comfort and handling to an evolved Touring suspension. The fork from the large touring ships works with dual-effect valves and the rear shocks are emulsion. You can manually adjust preload. It's nice.... but in Europe, semi-active suspensions from competitors with road detection and multiple damping laws have already seriously marked the ground.
Except that a CVO is not judged like that. More credit is given to its very high-quality finish, its paints and carefully applied patterns, its Tomahawk wheels and these refined moments. Among them, the heated seats, full LED lighting, the double paint treatment on the Heavy Breather air filter, the exposed stitching on the seats, the 'Billet' mirrors, the chrome parts collection, the 'Kahuna' collection parts (heated grips, footrests, passenger and driver footboards and silencer tips), the backlit controls and the 300-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system with 4 channels. Want to carry gear? There are 50 liters available in the trunk, and almost as much in the Tour-Pak.
Want entertainment other than the M8’s beats? That’s a job for the Boom Box GTS, with CB radio, GPS navigation, iPod playback, USB and SD card, a 6.5-inch touchscreen color TFT display, intercom link with the passenger and Bluetooth pairing with the phone. Speaking of phone, you also find the H-D Connect system. A link between the Trike and a smartphone app that allows you to have information about the machine, monitor it remotely, be notified in case of a collision or theft attempt, and have a set of practical notifications.
Briefly, this Trike is a three-wheeled CVO Limited. Something as luxurious as it is surprising, at an appalling price and an inevitable propensity to be noticed. The joker of a Trike: the possibility of driving it with a standard car license (permit B).
