Overview
What if the ultimate bagger wasn’t what you thought? Far from sanitized, two-wheeled limousines, the 2021 CVO Road Glide embraces its role as a luxury brute, a declaration of war against consensus. At Harley, the CVO department doesn’t tinker, it exaggerates. Here, they don’t just add chrome, they inflate the mechanical heart until reaching a historic record for the brand: 1923 cm3. This Milwaukee-Eight, renamed Screamin’ Eagle, is an earthquake at low RPM. Its 168.7 Nm of torque, available from 3500 RPM, are not up for discussion, they assert themselves in your back. The 105 horsepower seem almost anecdotal on paper, but it is this wave of primal thrust that defines the experience. Facing an Indian Challenger, more nervous and technological, Harley bets everything on visceral sensation.

Its aesthetics are a manifesto. With its 21-inch front wheel, its aggressive V-fairing and provocative colors like Bronze Armor, it is anything but a discreet liner. It is a bagger that looks down the road, with the arrogance of one who knows that its engine is the largest in Milwaukee’s history. Weight, however, remains an anchor: 405 kg fully fueled, a mass that is felt when stopped but, once launched, blends into the stability of a locomotive. The 680 mm seat is accessible, but this behemoth remains the affair of experienced road warriors, those who prefer authority to agility.
The real surprise lies in its electronic equipment. Harley has finally caught up with the RDRS pack, an arsenal that includes cornering ABS, traction control and a slip control system sensitive to angle. It’s not as refined as the best European systems, but to tame 168 Nm on wet ground, it’s a welcome lifeline. Luxury, however, shines elsewhere: in the Rockford Fosgate audio system with its 125-watt speakers and 400-watt amplifier, in the 6.5-inch Boom Box GTS screen compatible with Apple CarPlay, and in the H-D Connect service that transforms your smartphone into a security guard. We are beyond equipment, into over-equipment.

Ultimately, this CVO Road Glide is a radical proposition. At €41,390, it costs more than a fully optioned BMW K 1600 B. It offers neither the finesse nor the pure performance of the latter. But it sells something intangible: the aura of a giant block, the thrill of a factory custom pushed to its paroxysm, and the status of ultimate object for the Harley aficionado. It is the motorcycle for those who want the most powerful bagger from Milwaukee, without compromise. An irrational and fascinating masterpiece, as much as an admission: sometimes, excess is the only path worth taking.
