Overview
Goa, 1972. European backpackers landed on this Indian coast with their guitars, their ideals and their wanderlust. Half a century later, Royal Enfield revives that mental address to christen a limited series of its Classic 350: the Goan Trip Teal. The name says it all, and the teal livery lifted by bright orange accents confirms that the design team had quite a good time in Chennai.

This special edition goes beyond a fresh coat of paint. Compared to the standard Classic 350, Royal Enfield has raised the handlebars, revised the seat, brought the rear mudguard closer to the wheel, redesigned the tail light, modified the lower section of the front fender, and fitted the machine with radial-laced wheels and whitewall tyres. The two-tone tank features an engraved mandala motif, a nod to the spirituality that permeates this stretch of the Indian coast. The overall look leans toward bobber territory, without ever pushing it too far. It's cohesive, it's refined, and it partly justifies the €5,590 asking price for one of the 150 units reserved for the French market.
Beneath the celebratory bodywork, the mechanics remain familiar: a 349 cc single-cylinder, 20.2 horsepower at 6,100 rpm, 27 Nm available from 4,000 rpm. The figures don't inspire dreams on paper, and a top speed of 114 km/h will fool no one about the machine's intentions. A Honda CB350 or a Jawa 350 play in the same register, but the Royal Enfield holds its ground thanks to a meatier engine character, a rounder exhaust note, and a square 70 x 90 mm bore-stroke ratio that favours torque over rev-chasing. You don't race — you cruise.

The steel double-cradle frame, the 41 mm telescopic fork with 130 mm of travel and the twin rear shock absorbers form an unsurprising package, predictable in the best sense of the word. The Bybre braking system, with a 300 mm disc up front and 270 mm at the rear, does the job without overstepping. For this type of use, it's enough. The 195 kg dry weight and 805 mm seat height make it an accessible motorcycle that riders of average build will approach without hesitation. Royal Enfield hasn't forgotten a few concessions to modernity: full LED lighting, a USB-C port, and the Tripper Pod system — a small secondary TFT screen that displays navigation from the dedicated smartphone app.

What Royal Enfield is selling here is not performance. It's a human-scale style proposition, a city bike and country lane machine you can swing a leg over without any mental preparation. The target audience is fairly broad: the young rider drawn to vintage aesthetics without wanting to maintain a genuine classic, the urban commuter looking for a distinctive silhouette in traffic, the seasoned rider wanting a lightweight, no-fuss second bike. Royal Enfield limited editions have a habit of selling out quickly, and this Goan Trip Teal, unveiled at the Motoverse 2024 festival, should be no exception. One hundred and fifty units, a single colour, zero compromise on the shade: take it or leave it.
