Overview
When Ducati entered the power-cruiser segment, its XDiavel demonstrated exceptional performance for the category. A custom capable of reaching 250 km/h as standard is only found in the Italian manufacturer’s range.
The XDiavel S takes advantage of Euro5 regulations to boast more watts. There’s no question of taming the curves; quite the opposite. Its 1262 cm3 DVT twin now spits out 160 horsepower at 9500 rpm.
More power, certainly, and another modification to the exhaust outlet. What about the exhaust? It loses its upswept tips for a profile very close to that of the Diavel. Regarding everything else, the most enigmatic of Ducatis doesn’t change a single bolt.
We can’t say that this machine leaves anyone indifferent. A combination of muscle and nerves trapped together like a rock in a storm. The S version justifies its wilder price tag compared to the Black version with superb spoked wheels with polished spokes, more robust braking with Brembo M50 calipers, a brushed effect on the anodized aluminum single-sided swingarm, the luminous DRL signature, solid machined mirrors, a DLC coating on the fork tubes for better sliding, a more stylish alternator cover, the integrated infotainment system, and aluminum belt covers with machined edges. This piece of unique finish is surprising, clashes… and raises a coincidence with certain Franco-British production (cf the engine of the Brough Superior).
The XDiavel also offers ergonomics with multiple combinations, 13 mkg of torque available at an exceptionally low engine speed for a Ducati: 5000 rpm, a huge 240-width tire that the chassis doesn’t seem to be bothered by, a belt drive, fully adjustable suspension, dynamic capabilities well above the category, and a density of electronics. The XDiavel family is originally equipped with a hands-free start system, backlit commodo switches, an inertial platform, 3 Riding Modes (Sport / Touring / Urban), 8-level traction control, cruise control, a cornering-reactive ABS, a 3.5" color TFT dashboard, and a low-speed assist.
Furious custom, it now combines with several versions, all as deep as each other. Entry into this dimension is with the Dark model, luxury is conceived with this S version, and a temptation towards marquetry with the Nera. A motorcycle to give agent Mulder a desire for discovery.
