Overview

As the headlights fade and calm seeks to settle before the twilight, certain dry, metallic rumbles can be heard. These are those of a shadow of the night, of a motorcycle awakening in the dark returns of a rain-soaked day, of a Ducati with an occult but not ominous destiny: the Scrambler 800 Nightshift.

Appearing in 2021, this latest version of the Scrambler aimed to be more Classic and robust than its counterparts. The idea remains the same for this Next-gen evolution, where the focus is on technological advancements without betraying the concept. This type of Ducati is like a Proustian madeleine, accompanied by a rock n’ roll madeleine.

More serious than the Icon, less turbulent than the Full Throttle, the Nightshift impeccably maintains its position within the family. Since the previous chapter, it has evolved in style with slimmer number plates, a headlight where the X has escaped to the surface, spokes dipped in black, a leather seat taking on a brown hue, and a more colorful but still less flashy robe. The blue-night undress gives way in 2026 to an "Emerald Green" somewhat Anglo-Saxon color.

The handlebar-mounted mirrors are retained, as are the spoked wheels and the flat handlebar. Except that the latter is no longer cluttered by the throttle cable set. A ride-by-wire module has been installed, which cleans up the cockpit and brings new functions. Indeed, the Scrambler 800 family is now equipped with two Riding Modes (Road / Rain) and traction control.

Because it has moved into the tech’. In addition to these elements, a quickshifter and a multimedia platform are available as options. Also, the instrumentation changes decade. The minimalist LCD screen is scrapped in favor of a 4.3-inch color TFT screen. Very complete and carefully designed in terms of graphics, this instrumentation is a bit out of place but provides a quality surplus.

A Scrambler is also (above all) a good old air-cooled Desmodue. An engine from another time, other customs, with a flavor and technique close to extinction, which we savor like a light, dry and sweet cake. 2 valves per cylinder, air cooling, desmodromic distribution... all that’s missing are carburetors to recapture the flavor of the 80s-90s. Ducati has preserved its power of 73 horsepower despite Euro5, as well as its torque of 6.6 mkg. The work has not only focused on this adaptation to standards; the weight of the 803 cm3 has been reduced by 2.5 kg, the clutch is more compact, and gear selection is more precise.

The chassis has also been updated. The frame scheme is identical - a minimalist steel tubular trellis - but lightened and whose rear loop is now detached. The shock absorber moves to a central position while the swingarm is redesigned. For the rest, it is a continuation of the 41 mm Kayaba inverted fork and the braking system. A large 330 mm disc pinched by a Brembo 4-piston radial M4.32 caliper (the assembly is convincing), motivated by a cornering ABS and complemented by a 245 mm disc at the rear. Between engine and cycle part improvements, the Nightshift has lost 5 kilos. Not bad!

The new generation Scrambler 800 Nightshift has not lost its way. Easy to ride, dark, just the right amount of class, with the timeless charm of its twin, it brings the sparkling that the Icon distributes during the day into the night. The price stings a little more - it remains a Ducati before being a Scrambler.
