Overview
So, are we playing Californian on the Loire River banks? With this SCRAMBLER 800 Mach 2.0, Ducati serves us a portion of American dream from the seventies, in the style of a sunny road movie. We are far from the demons of racing and surgical mechanics. Here, the motto is easy smiles, aimless rides, and style that stands out at the local café. A clever positioning, which bets everything on emotion and looks, even if it means glossing over specs that won't shine on the track.

Under the refined retro varnish, we find the reassuring base of the Scrambler 800. The 803 cc air-cooled, 2-valve L-twin is a familiar acquaintance. Its 73 horsepower at 8250 rpm and 67.7 Nm of torque won't rip your arms off, but it constitutes a characterful engine, supple and playful, perfect for everyday use or countryside getaways. At 186 kg fully fueled, the machine remains manageable, and the 790 mm seat opens the doors to a large majority of riders. It's the antithesis of the demanding sportbike: a motorcycle that forgives, encourages, and makes riding simple and joyful.
But where Ducati excels is in the styling. The Mach 2.0 is not just a colorful variation. It adopts a flat track seat, a specific aluminum handlebar, and features brushed aluminum cooling fins that smell good like café-racer. The anodized black exhaust and valve covers complete this refined look. It’s a motorcycle that is as much admired as it is ridden, an assumed fashion accessory that draws on the heritage of the legendary Ducati Mach 1 from 1965. For around 10,750 euros, you are mainly buying an atmosphere, a revisited piece of legend.
So, for whom? Certainly not for the track rider seeking lap times or the highway rider. The maximum speed approaching 180 km/h and the 13.5-liter tank remind us that its domain is the secondary road, the Sunday ride, the stylish urban outing. Faced with a Triumph Street Scrambler, smoother and more melodious, or a BMW R nineT Pure, more substantial and premium, Ducati plays the card of Latin nonchalance and pure retro. Its chassis with 41 mm inverted fork is sportier than many of its neo-retro rivals, offering lively and reassuring handling.
Ultimately, this Mach 2.0 is more of a statement of intent than a technical revolution. Ducati sells a lifestyle, an aesthetic escape. It’s a perfect motorcycle for the rider who wants to enjoy themselves without complexity, for whom the journey counts more than the destination, and for whom a good vintage brushstroke is sometimes worth all the horsepower in the world. A charming machine, sometimes superficial, but diabolically effective at making you fall in love with the road, simply.
