Overview
Do motorcycles always have to be performance machines, competition tools, or number-crunching devices? The Ducati Scrambler 800 Classic, launched in 2015 and faithful until 2019, answers with a frank and joyful no. It offers another path, that of simple pleasure, assumed aesthetics, and uninhibited riding. This L-twin 803 cc engine doesn't seek to conquer lap times, with its 75 horsepower at 8250 rpm and 68 Nm of torque. It simply wants to make you smile, to remind you that riding can be a moment of pure relaxation, far from the pressures of the track or the demands of the long-distance traveler.

Its look is a direct journey back to the 1970s, without pretense. The Orange Sunshine color scheme, the brown seat, the spoked rims, and the aluminum fenders are sincere nods, not marketing accessories. It even bears the historical logo, as a respectful tribute. But beneath this vintage exterior, technology is well present: ABS, a Brembo radial front brake with a 330 mm disc, a 41 mm inverted fork, and Pirelli Dual Sport tires. The steel tubular frame and the announced weight of 186 kg dry give it a feeling of solidity and immediate maneuverability.
The engine, derived from the older Monster 796, is a pivotal element. This air-cooled twin, with two valves per cylinder, is the last of the brand to retain this simple configuration. It is not explosive, but its response is linear, its sound deep, and its management via an intuitive six-speed gearbox. The maximum speed of 180 km/h is more of an indicator than an objective. You wouldn't compare this Scrambler 800 Classic to a Yamaha MT-07 or a BMW F 900 R; they are on different planets. Ducati plays on the field of emotion and style, with a seat height of 790 mm that makes access easy for almost everyone.
The target audience? Those who love beautiful mechanics without pretending to be racers, those who want a daily motorcycle with a unique character, or a beginner attracted by a design that tells a story. The Ducati Scrambler 800 Classic test confirms this impression: it is a machine that is experienced by feel, not by the dashboard. Its 13.5-liter tank invites short and joyful getaways, not transcontinental raids.
But this originality comes at a price, and it is salty. 10490 euros is a significant entry ticket into the premium neo-retro world. Ducati knows how to sell its history and its image, and the Scrambler Classic is a product of this strategy. Is it justified? For the buyer who is only looking for performance, no. For those who value a unique object, charged with a strong identity and capable of providing daily pleasure without complication, the argument can hold. It is a motorcycle that does not achieve consensus, but it brilliantly fills the niche it has chosen: to make everyday life a little more fun and much more stylish.
