Overview
Some creations can surprise. Others can pay homage to past glories. And there are those that unite the two. This is the destiny of this Triumph Bonneville that Citroën enlisted to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the 2CV. It needed a symbol, boldness, and that touch of French glamour...
It was, however, an Italian company that took charge of the design. The South Garage workshop did not lack creativity and inspiration for this machine. Two elements strongly affirm the connection with the legendary Citroën car. The Delage two-tone black and red paint, identical to that of the 2CV Charleston. And the rear deck completely covering the rear frame, like the posterior wings of the eponymous car. "Charleston" inscriptions conclude these rounded and delicate shapes in the final silhouette.
When the work is such that you no longer recognize the original motorcycle, you know you are in the presence of a quality exercise. It almost makes you think that this motorcycle is a Citroën; but beneath the robe, it is an English bike. A Bonneville of renewal, from the dawn of the 21st century. South Garage also applied its talent by replacing the headlight with a grille adorned with the double chevron identity mark of André’s brand. The functional yellow optic finds its place on the side of the fork. A single, offset headlight, as on the prototype of the Deuche, born before the Second World War. Special mention for the luggage rack, which also reprises the symbol of the Citroën house. The minimalist instrumentation is discreet against the "South Garage" badge mounted on the handlebar risers. Monza-type fuel cap and leather seat continue to salute the sense of finish and craftsmanship.
One of the most iconic French cars seems truly to have been reincarnated in this motorcycle. Unique example created only for the pleasure of the eye and commemoration, this Triumph Bonneville Charleston also plays on its heart that beats to the tempo of two cylinders. It's not the rhythm or the sound of the 2CV of yesteryear, but the bottle still provokes drunkenness.
