Overview

Thirty years ago, a group of guys in a corner of a factory assembled a sports bike engine (900 SS) into a Superbike 888 frame, under the design of a certain Miguel Galluzzi. Seeing the result, one of the protagonists apparently nicknamed it "mostro." And bam! It didn't become a Chocapic but the birth of a new category of machine: the sporty roadster, full of character and composure. The MONSTER… or Mostro, or Monstro as it was sometimes called.

So, 30 years that the Monster burst onto the market, with numerous variations allowing the most urban rider (600 Monster) to the most aggressive pilot (Monster 1200 R) to enjoy themselves on the roads. The opportunity for Ducati to launch a 30th anniversary version, with richer equipment and a very symbolic design.

The Italian flag takes over the roadster, letting green, red and white pronounce graphic and sporty airs. It's beautiful, nervous, flattering to the rider; delighted to contemplate this machine before taking possession of it and abusing the lean angles. A good special series must have bonuses. In Italy, a country of haute couture, good food and mechanical surprises, it is customary to show good taste. Like this red "30th" embroidery on the seat, the seat cover with matching design, the small windscreen adorned with the national flag and the forged aluminum Marchesini rims. The wheels are specific to this version, with a gold finish and an exclusive spoke pattern.

The 30th Anniversary Monster also knows how to welcome you with a dedicated animation when the dashboard is switched on. Its precious side is reinforced by the certificate of authenticity and the dedicated cover supplied with the motorcycle. Each copy has its limited serial number engraved on the upper fork tube. 500 copies, also embellished with an Öhlins steering damper, front and rear carbon fiber fenders, and special decorative elements.

Ducati particularly likes this tri-color livery. It has dressed the 25th and 20th anniversary Monsters and the S4Rs Tricolore, several versions of sportbikes (Panigale V4 Speciale, 1299 Panigale S Anniversario, 1098 S Tricolore, 851) up to Valentino Rossi's Desmosedici GP12. It must be admitted that it suits this Monster SP very well. Indeed, the "Trenta Anniversario" is built on the basis of the most efficient of the Monsters. This includes an Öhlins NIX 30 inverted fork and an amortisseur of the same make - for a higher level of road feel, a pair of carbon fiber Termignoni silencers (bringing 4% more power), Brembo Stylema brake calipers, a Li-Ion battery and a reduced weight. With another bonus: this edition announces 164 kilograms dry weight, that's 2 less than the SP.

Over time, this roadster has abandoned its trellis frame and some elements that forged its legend but not its flagship architecture: the twin. From its 937 cm3, it delivers 111 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and a good dose of torque of 9.5 mkg at 6,500 rpm. Electronics did not exist on the M900 of 1993. Today, chips and algorithms allow it to act with a shifter, traction control and wheelie control, 3 Riding Modes, an ABS cornering, a launch control assistant, a USB socket, a 4.3-inch color TFT screen, LEDs everywhere and automatic retracting turn signals.

More than 350,000 Monsters have been sold in 30 years. The 500 copies of the 30th Anniversary edition will be sold out without difficulty, the market being fond of limited series. Even at abominable prices. It's only halfway the case of this motorcycle, far from the delirium of a Streetfighter Lamborghini but increased by 3,900 euros compared to the Monster SP.
