Overview
Nineteen units. That is all Brough Superior agreed to produce of this 2023-vintage SS 100 Ultimate, and that number says nearly everything about the house philosophy. No conquest of market share, no commercial battle against the Honda CB1000R or the Ducati Streetfighter. Just a statement of intent at €71,500, aimed at a handful of collectors for whom motorcycling is as much an art of living as a mechanical passion.

What strikes you first is the engine. A 88-degree V-twin of 997 cc whose crankcases do not come from a conventional foundry, but from CNC machining performed directly on solid blocks of 5000-series aluminium-magnesium alloy. The French workshop invested in a Hurco five-axis milling machine, and the result is visible before you even turn the key. The surfaces display a precision and depth of relief more readily associated with fine watchmaking than with motorcycle production. The engine gains in lightness and structural rigidity in the process. The 102 horsepower delivered at 9,600 rpm and 87.3 Nm of peak torque at 7,300 rpm almost fade into the background before this demonstration of industrial craftsmanship.
The chassis follows the same logic of unapologetic excellence. The titanium tubular frame accommodates a Fior-type double-wishbone fork, a geometrically sophisticated solution that stands in sharp contrast to conventional telescopic units. The swingarm is machined from solid aluminium. Braking is entrusted to Beringer, and the single shock absorber offers 130 mm of rear travel. At 186 kg dry on the scales, the SS 100 Ultimate remains reasonable given the technical richness it carries. The claimed top speed of 200 km/h is not a selling point, and that is just as well. It is not its territory.

The care given to the livery also deserves attention. The black treatment on the tank flanks, ringed by an aluminium band that extends through to the rear cowl, gives the machine a rare visual coherence. This is not style added at the end of the chain by a designer anxious to satisfy market research. It is an integrated construction in which every detail answers another. The saddle specific to this Ultimate version further reinforces the sense of an object conceived as a whole, without any compromise dictated by cost constraints.
One must be clear-eyed about what the SS 100 Ultimate is not. It offers no sophisticated electronic aids, no touchscreen, no connectivity. Alongside an S 1000 R or an Aprilia Tuono, it appears almost ascetic on the technological front. But comparing these machines makes no more sense than placing a film Leica alongside a current smartphone. The SS 100 Ultimate speaks to a very particular profile: someone who places materiality, rarity, and artisanal craft above raw performance or everyday versatility. For that precise audience, and only for them, this motorcycle is coherent from the first component to the last. The nineteen fortunate buyers already know it.
