Overview

Fifteen examples. No more. When BMW Motorrad decides to play the ultra-limited series card, the Bavarian brand doesn't do things halfway, and this 2025 R 12 Julie Wood is striking proof.

BMW 1200 R 12 Julie Wood

Stéphane Brun, already involved in the 2019 NineT Scrambler Vaillante, signs a livery here that sharply contrasts with the usual minimalism of Munich’s neo-retro roadster. Metallic silver background, stylized blue and red bands running along the tank and fairing: the inspiration comes directly from the helmet of Julie Wood, a comic book character born from the pencil of Jean Graton. The graphic universe is resolutely American, with this mix of glamour and burnt asphalt that perfectly suits the character of a young flat track rider dreaming of professional circuits. Of the ten examples destined for France and the five reserved for Belgium, the tank bears individual numbering that transforms each machine into a collector's item as much as a riding tool.

Under the festive attire, the mechanics remain those of a standard R 12, and that's not a bad thing. The 1,170 cc flat-twin engine develops 95 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 109.8 Nm at 6,000 rpm, all transmitted by a cardan shaft. It doesn't claim to be the brute power of an R 1300 GS, nor the brutality of a Ducati Monster that assumes itself without complex. The R 12 plays something else: a defined character, a recognizable Boxer sound, and a torque available from low revs that makes the machine pleasant for everyday use. The 227 kg all full are perceptible at a standstill, but the 754 mm seat remains accessible to a wide range of builds. Faced with a Harley-Davidson Sportster S or a Triumph Speed Twin 1200, the BMW assumes its premium positioning with a maintenance-free cardan transmission and adjustable suspensions that partially justify the bill.

Because let's talk about the addition. The base R 12 already hovers around €15,000. This Julie Wood edition is displayed at €21,400, or an additional approximately €6,500 for the special livery, numbering, and additional equipment. The comparison with the R 12 S, which also plays on an iconic positioning at a high price, naturally imposes itself. We are in collector territory, not Sunday rider territory. It's not a criticism: it's simply the reality of an object that is not intended for the same hands as a series machine.

BMW 1200 R 12 Julie Wood

The official presentation began at the Rétromobile show in early February before passing through the Lyon Two Wheels Show, and each BMW Motorrad dealership accompanies the operation with a copy of the "Mortel Rodéo" album. The marketing exercise is well-structured, the comic book and the motorcycle feeding each other with the same popular energy. BMW had already understood this in 2019 with Michel Vaillant. Julie Wood, with her universe of oval tracks and urban rodeos, coherently integrates into this heritage. For the enthusiast looking for a rare piece to display in their garage, or for those who want to ride with something that no one else has on their street, this R 12 ticks all the boxes. For others, the standard R 12 offers 95% of the experience for a more reasonable budget.
