Overview
When BMW decides to draw from its own catalog of accessories to create a limited series, the result is rarely insignificant. The Scrambler X, the British variant of the R NineT Scrambler, is the most direct demonstration of this: no reworked bodywork, no exotic welds, just what’s needed for the machine to fully embrace its name.

The 1170 cc boxer engine is the one we know: 110 horsepower at 7750 rpm, 115.7 Nm of torque available from 6000 rpm, all transmitted by a shaft. This architecture gives it a frank character, without the nervousness of a Japanese four-cylinder or the theatrical roar of an American V-twin. At 220 kg in running order, the BMW is not a featherweight, but it remains within the standard for the displacement roadster segment. The 820 mm seat requires a certain stature, and the 17-liter tank offers reasonable range for a machine positioned between urban riding and excursions on trails.
What distinguishes the Scrambler X from the standard version is precisely its off-road oriented equipment. Spoked wheels receive knobby tires in 120/70-19 at the front and 170/60-17 at the rear, which changes the proposition compared to a classic R NineT. The 43 mm telescopic fork offers 125 mm of travel, the Paralever monoshock 140 mm: enough to absorb forest trails without martyrizing the rider, even if no one will claim to rival a true enduro here. LED turn signals and heated grips complete the picture, two additions that make a difference in everyday use without unreasonably increasing the bill.
The displayed price of 13,250 euros corresponds to the British market price, with all the reservations that this implies in terms of conversion and local taxation. In France, the bill will be different. What is more interesting is the commercial logic behind this X edition: like the NineT Sport before it, this version was initially reserved for British buyers. Yet the Sport eventually crossed the Channel. The Scrambler X could follow the same path, and French enthusiasts would be wrong to turn the page too quickly.
This motorcycle is aimed at an audience that wants scrambler aesthetics without tinkering in their garage, someone who appreciates the mechanical consistency of a proven flat-twin and who doesn't need external validation to love a discreet machine. Faced with a Ducati Scrambler 1100 or a Triumph Scrambler 1200, the BMW plays a different card: less visual spectacle, more technical substance. It’s a choice, not a weakness.
