Overview
One hundred years. An entire century surviving wars, economic crises, successive buyouts, Japanese competition, and passing trends. To celebrate this improbable anniversary, Pesaro logically chose its most iconic roadster, the TnT, to carry the centenary colors. The Benelli TNT 899 Century Racer is thus the official vehicle of this intimate celebration, a motorcycle steeped in history in a market where European manufacturers fight daily for their survival.

Let's be honest about what this edition truly represents. It is not a radical technical overhaul, nor a new platform. It is a targeted upgrade of the 899 cc roadster, dressed in a commemorative livery and a few details that raise the stakes: a fully adjustable 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork replaces the stock equipment, radial Brembo calipers bite onto two 320 mm discs at the front, the injection mapping has been revised, and the seat receives an Alcantara covering that changes the riding position as much as the aesthetics. Precise adjustments, not a revolution, but enough to sharpen up a steel trellis frame that deserved the attention.
The three-cylinder 899 cc engine produces 120 horsepower at 9,500 rpm with 88.3 Nm of torque available at 8,000 rpm. These figures place the machine squarely in the intermediate sports roadster category, between the Triumph Street Triple and more muscular offerings such as the Ducati Monster 1100. All this for a dry weight of 199 kg — a manageable but not lightweight motorcycle, with an 820 mm seat height suited to a rider of average build. The claimed top speed of 230 km/h illustrates the beast's temperament, but it is in corners and at mid-range revs that this three-cylinder truly expresses its character, with a sound that stands apart from the smooth four-cylinders of Asian manufacturers.
The drawback lies in the commercial positioning. At €9,990, the Century Racer sits in a price bracket where competition is fierce and purely cosmetic arguments no longer cut it. The vintage logo and centenary sticker will carry little weight against a rational buyer comparing spec sheets. That said, Benelli's historical dimension — a brand founded in 1911 in the Italian Marche region — represents an emotional purchase argument that is difficult to quantify but very real for certain enthusiasts. And worth noting for French riders: the 1,130 cc version of this same edition will not be imported to the French market, making the 899 all the more exclusive in this context.
This roadster is aimed primarily at the experienced rider who wants something different from the Japanese mainstream — a strong character, a genuine Italian lineage — and who accepts paying a slight premium for soul rather than raw performance alone. The centenary is a good opportunity to remember that some brands have survived everything, and that alone deserves at least a measure of respect.
