Overview
Every year, the Lyon Motor Show sees BMW pull something out of its sleeve. Not necessarily a mechanical revolution — sometimes just a detail that gets people talking. For 2026, the Bavarian brand is banking on an exclusive shade reserved for the French market: Frozen Pure Grey, applied notably to the F 900 R. A color sourced directly from the BMW Individual catalogue, the in-house customization department that usually dresses high-end four-wheeled coupés and sedans. Seeing this understated, slightly metallic grey migrate onto a motorcycle is a seductive idea on paper.

One misunderstanding must be cleared up immediately, however. The promotional photos show a well-equipped motorcycle, with a seat cowl, engine guard, and windscreen. None of that is included. The Frozen Pure Grey edition is the color, full stop. The listed price is identical to the base Snapper Rocks Blue, at €11,100. BMW does offer a €1,600 discount on orders placed before the end of March, bringing the bill down to €9,500. But that same discount also applies to the standard F 900 R, which then drops to €7,900. In other words, paying full price for the Frozen Pure Grey amounts to spending €1,600 on a paint finish. Make of that what you will.
Beneath this grey livery, the mechanicals remain unchanged — and that's already good news. The 895 cc parallel-twin with its 270-degree firing interval produces 105 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 93.2 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. That 270-degree phasing gives it a vaguely uneven character, a pulse that V-twin fans appreciate without ever mistaking it for a true 90-degree twin. The engine lacks raw soul, it's true. Up against the MT-09's twin or the more aggressive parallel-twin in the Triumph Speed 400, it plays the efficiency card rather than sonic seduction. But it does its job seriously, never disappointing on the road.

The chassis backs up this positioning: steel tubular frame with stressed engine, 43 mm inverted fork, mono-shock, Brembo braking with two 320 mm discs up front. At 208 kg fully fuelled with a seat height of 815 mm, the F 900 R remains accessible to a rider of average stature. The onboard electronics cover the essentials: cornering ABS, traction control, adjustable engine braking, three riding modes. Nothing exceptional in the segment for 2026, but everything needed to ride confidently both in daily use and on a twisty road.

This roadster targets the experienced rider looking for a versatile and reliable machine, without the showiness of a sportbike or the heft of a maxi-roadster. The F 900 R is not the most exciting motorcycle in its category, but it remains one of the most well-rounded. And in this understated Frozen Pure Grey, it gains a slightly sharper character — visually, at least. If you have your heart set on this shade, make sure you negotiate your discount well.
