Overview

A look back at 2009. The first RSV4 reveals its pedigree: 180 horsepower for 179 kilograms dry weight. The descendants have known how to improve, up to offering SBK for sale: 230 horsepower for 230 horsepower for 166 kilograms. The RSV4 X Trenta marks its territory, with ambitions beyond that of its ancestor.

For decades, manufacturers have offered their sportbikes in special versions to validate their presence in major championships. But for 10 years, a new situation has emerged on the market. Extremely limited editions, pushed to the maximum to give their best and sold exclusively for the track, without any competition requirements. The stopwatch and nothing else!

Aprilia was among the first to launch. First with its Factory Works, then in 2019 with its RSV4 X. You can even delve a little further into the RSV4 Biaggi Replica; but that one respected the cylinder capacity rules for racing. The time has come for a new circuit beast. The staff in Noale could have called it RSV4 X II but the Trenta suffix was chosen instead. The opportunity to pay a little tribute in addition to advanced technical solutions.

Trenta for thirty. This motorcycle celebrates the 30th anniversary of Aprilia’s first world champion title – in 125 with Alessandro Gramigni. The RSV4 X adopts the colors of the machine from that era. The RS-GP did the same during the MotoGP in Misano at the end of August 2022. We won't dwell on the number of victories or the events of '92. We're going to look at what this circuit bomb is worth.

It’s a mix between the recent RSV4 Factory and the older RSV4 X. Its engine has a few cc more than the previous model, benefiting from a gain in watts. 5 more horsepower, and 13 gained since the production model. To release them from the V4 cylinder, the Factory Works workshop increased the compression ratio, fitted a SC Project titanium and carbon pot, placed a Sprint Filter air filter and recalibrated the Magneti-Marelli ECU. As an option, it is still possible to gain breath with a fully titanium exhaust, derived from the one used in GP. Given the extra calories to evacuate, more efficient radiators are supplied by Taleo Tecnoracing. An exclusive titanium sprocket is installed at the output of the gearbox.

Aprilia has retained the crazy braking of the my19 model, with its Brembo GP4-MS calipers biting into 330 mm T-Drive discs; the pads are ventilated by carbon air ducts. We find Marchesini forged magnesium wheels, the M7R Genesi model, allowing a weight gain of 2 kilograms. They are surrounded by Diablo SC1 and SC-X slicks. On the suspension side, the Öhlins elements are modified by Andreani, with the collaboration of MotoGP engineers.

The fairing has evolved according to two directives. It is logically based on the fairing of the RSV4 1100, with a full carbon skin, optimized by the influence of GP. The “whiskers” take up much more space, in order to better clamp the front at high speed. Also, this RSV4-X is the first "series" motorcycle to adopt a swingarm wing. An innovation that we owe to Ducati, officially to better cool the rear tire. Yeah…. In Noale, we talk more about aerodynamics. The "under wing" would offer 25% more aero load and a noticeable reduction in drag. At Ducati, innovations are regular. Yet, it is the rival with the lion who has the privilege of using it on another bike than the Grand Prix prototypes. Another particularity, a retouch of the tail to create two other winglets.

On the chassis side, the Italian perimeter frame has nothing to prove for a long time. Aprilia simply refines it as much as possible. The latest version of the RSV4 has a reinforced lower swingarm profile. One of the best current cycle parts is complemented by a demonic engine and very complete electronics – anti-wheeling, traction control, multiple maps, engine braking control, etc. A racing commodo from Jetprime allows you to navigate and parameterize all the assistance. You have to channel the 230 horsepower; the power of a 10-year-old MotoGP prototype.

Extreme sportbike, the RSV4 Xtrenta already firmly believes in its success. Its availability is announced 10 times higher than that of the first RSV4-X. There will be 100 of them for sale, for the modest sum of 50,000 euros…. without VAT. Once across the border, this stopwatch-shredding machine will demand 10 bars more.

It’s useless to go to your local Aprilia dealer to order one. You must first reserve it (from September 6) on the Factory Works site. After that, once the bike is ready, head to Noale to pick it up at Aprilia Racing. The owner will receive a floor mat, a cover, and above all the possibility of visiting the race department.
