Overview
When Noale decides to play with the big boys, it doesn't pretend. The 2013 RSV4-R with its APRC package delivers 180 horsepower extracted from a 65-degree V4 that revs to 12,250 rpm, compressed at 13:1, with pistons striking a 78 mm bore over a 52.3 mm stroke. A short, responsive engine that delivers its peak torque of 114.7 Nm at 10,000 rpm — well above the rev range where most riders start to get nervous. Against a Ducati 1199 Panigale or a BMW S1000RR from the same era, the RSV4 doesn't play the displacement card or engage in technological one-upmanship for its own sake: it plays the consistency card.

What strikes you first is the size. 186 kg dry for a sportbike of this caliber is a figure that commands respect, especially knowing that the APRC version managed to shed two additional kilograms compared to previous variants, thanks to lighter wheels and a reworked exhaust. The twin-spar aluminum perimeter frame wraps around this compact engine with a precision that is immediately felt on track, where the steering responds without vagueness or compromise. The 43 mm inverted fork and the monoshock with 130 mm of travel do their job without trying to compensate for the shortcomings of a chassis that has none. The 845 mm seat height demands good weight management; beginners will move on, and that's better for everyone.
The APRC is where the 2013 R version truly changes dimension. Long reserved for top-of-the-line Factory variants, this electronics suite incorporates four modules that transform the bike into a configurable tool. The ATC, the eight-position traction control, goes as far as memorizing behavior based on the fitted tire — no mere brochure gimmick, but a genuine torque management logic. The AWC, the adjustable anti-wheelie, allows you to exploit acceleration without wasting energy in uncontrolled wheelies. The ALC, the three-level launch control, makes every pit exit a calibrated experience. And the AQS, the integrated quickshifter, eliminates the clutch during upshifts — which, at 12,000 rpm, is no luxury.

The gearbox ratios were also tightened on the first three gears for this version, improving responsiveness on corner exits and making the bike even more effective in technical sections. The 17-liter tank provides decent range without unnecessarily weighing down the machine. The two 320 mm front discs with four-piston radial calipers bite hard and progressively; the rear brake with its single 220 mm disc is there to fine-tune the line, not to slow things down seriously.
At €15,499 at the time of its release, the RSV4-R APRC ABS positioned itself as a serious alternative to the Germanic superbikes and Bolognese rockets, without the comfort compromises of the former or the sometimes unpredictable temperament of the latter. It is a bike for seasoned track riders and committed weekend sportsmen who know their limits — a machine that does not forgive imprecision but generously rewards those who take the time to understand it. The claimed top speed of 300 km/h is not a sales argument: it is simply the logical consequence of everything that came before.
