Overview

When Noale decides to play with the big boys, it doesn't send a delegate. It shows up itself, with a 65-degree V4 nestled in an aluminum twin-spar frame, 180 horsepower at 12,500 rpm, and 179 kilograms on the scales. The Aprilia RSV4 1000 Factory is not a response to the Japanese, it's a declaration of war specifically addressed to the CBR1000RR, the R1, and the ZX-10R.

Aprilia RSV4 1000 FACTORY

The engine is the real subject. This compact V4 cylinder engine, opened to only 65 degrees, reconciles two worlds that the industry had long believed to be incompatible: the centralized mass of a twin-cylinder and the power of an inline-four. The result turns to 12,500 rpm to deliver its 180 horsepower, with a torque of 112.8 Nm available from 10,000 rpm. On paper, one thinks of the Honda RC30 and RC45, those competition machines hastily homologated for championship needs. Except here, Aprilia built something civilized from the start, with a compression ratio of 13:1 and a bore of 78 mm for a stroke of 52.3 mm that gives it a frankly short character, typical of high-revving engines. Integral ride-by-wire opens the door to fine management of torque on corner exits, where an R1 of the same era is still fumbling with a single mapping.

The Factory version justifies its price of 19,990 euros with equipment that leaves little room for criticism. The 43 mm inverted Öhlins fork at the front, the Öhlins mono-shock at the rear, the radial-mount Brembo calipers on 320 mm discs, the forged aluminum rims. All of this forms a coherent ensemble, designed for an assumed track use. The single seat at 845 mm in height and the absence of passenger footrests leave no ambiguity about the target audience. This is not a low-end torque motorcycle, it's a track bike that accepts being registered.

The chassis provides a few pleasant surprises. The steering angle is adjustable, as is the swingarm anchor and the position of the engine block in the frame. Three parameters that Superbike teams manipulate throughout the season and that Aprilia intelligently offered to its customers on the road. On a machine announced at 304 km/h with a 17-liter tank, these settings are not folklore. They make the difference between a motorcycle that you endure and a motorcycle that you configure.

Aprilia RSV4 1000 FACTORY

The flaws? The dry weight of 179 kilograms remains honest compared to the Japanese competition, but the seat height will exclude some mid-size pilots. The price too. 19,990 euros in 2010, it's above a standard R1 and in the same waters as a 1098 Ducati. For this price, one is justified in demanding a compromise-free behavior, and the Aprilia RSV4 1000 Factory 2025 remains a reference in discussions about European sportbikes of this generation, so much its architecture has influenced what followed. The exterior lines are sharp, the side gills under the headlights give a recognizable profile at one hundred meters, and the reduced fairing reveals enough of the frame so that the whole is never visually thick.

This is not a motorcycle for beginners, nor for those seeking a touring-sport compromise. It is a machine built with a specific objective, which achieves that objective without deviation. Superbike enthusiasts know why Aprilia chose this platform for its return to competition.
