Overview
Since Honda revived the Africa Twin in its modern form, the Japanese trail bike has steadily climbed the registration charts. The 2026 version carries on that tradition by refining an already proven formula, without ever betraying the adventurous DNA that built the model's reputation during the great rally-raid era of the 1980s. Whether you're looking for a machine to eat up the miles across Europe or to venture down remote tracks, the Africa Twin 1100 appeals to a remarkably broad range of riders — from the luggage-laden tourer to the weekend off-road enthusiast.
At the heart of the machine, the 1,084 cc parallel-twin has benefited from serious thermodynamic work. A higher compression ratio, enlarged intake ports, and repositioned injector bodies have delivered a 7% torque increase over the previous generation, reaching 11.4 mkg available 750 rpm earlier in the rev range. Power remains fixed at 102 horsepower, a figure that sits well with the trail bike's all-round vocation — adequate on open roads, manageable on rough terrain. This engine impresses above all through its fullness at low and mid revs, which is where the bulk of everyday miles are covered.
The real novelty of this evolution lies in the Showa EERA semi-active suspension, now available on the standard version after being exclusive to the Adventure Sports. The system analyzes suspension stroke speed in real time using multiple sensors, then adjusts the parameters of the 45 mm inverted fork and Pro-Link rear shock in just 15 milliseconds. Five suspension modes accompany the six existing riding modes — Tour, Urban, Gravel, Off-Road, and two customizable configurations. The electronics package includes a 6-axis IMU, 7-level traction control, cornering ABS, 3-position wheelie control, and cruise control. All of this is managed from a 6.5-inch color TFT screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth, while a secondary minimalist display keeps the essentials on hand for those who prefer riding without digital distractions. The steel frame, 21 and 18-inch wire-spoke wheels shod with dual-sport tires, and 310/256 mm disc brakes with 4-piston radial calipers round out a chassis built for endurance. At 231 kg fully fueled, the weight is reasonable for a machine this well equipped.
Facing direct competition — the KTM 1090 Adventure, the lighter Yamaha Ténéré 700, or the BMW R 1300 GS at the top end — the Africa Twin 1100 holds a coherent, central position. It is neither the lightest nor the most powerful, but it combines accessible pricing with technological depth in a balance that speaks to the widest possible audience. Starting at 14,999 euros, complemented by four optional packs oriented around Rally, Adventure, Travel, and Urban use, it can be built to suit its owner's ambitions. Few models in this category offer such adaptability — which goes a long way toward explaining why the Honda Africa Twin continues to assert itself as a benchmark in the road trail market.
