Overview
The idea is simple. You start, you recall every turn, every trajectory, every grain of the asphalt… and you attempt to set a circuit record. Because with the Aprilia RSV4 X ex3ma, you have the bike to do it!
Following the controversial Trenta, Aprilia is pushing even further in the radicalization of its hypersport. Coming directly from its Factory Works customer racing department, the new Noale missile is conceived, developed, improved, and transcended to make it a machine very close to official racing bikes.
In terms of aerodynamics, the ex3ma makes a leap forward compared to the Trenta. The face retains a degree of identity from the RSV4 lineage but the entire fairing is modified. While its predecessor “was content” with enlarging its whiskers and adding a wing in front of the rear tire (nicknamed a “spoon”), the ex3ma embraces a wave-like wing in front of the nose, almost identical to that of the RS-GP. It generates 5 times more downforce than the winglets of the Trenta.
The entire fairing, in carbon fiber, has nothing in common with that of an RSV4. Other wings have been installed on the sides, while its more enveloping shape allows for tripling downforce in corners. The RSV4 X ex3ma is presented as the first production bike equipped with a ground-effect aerodynamic system. It benefits from the enthusiasm and enormous work in this area carried out by Aprilia and by all the actors in MotoGP. In the same vein, the “spoon” under the swingarm is still there. And new “cornering wings” are found between the brake calipers and the ground.
The explosive engine produces as many horsepower as the Trenta, namely 230 horsepower. An increase of 30 horsepower from the original engine of the 1100 RSV4. This more than formidable power reaches 13,500 rpm, but the 4-cylinder can still rev up to 13,900 rpm. Torque is stronger as well, increasing from 12.7 to 13.4 kg-m. The power gain is achieved thanks to an increased compression ratio, a Sprint Filter air filter, and a freer exhaust. SC Project provides a new exhaust system, with titanium collectors and two symbolic carbon fiber outlets, like those of the 250 two-strokes from the glory days.
Factory Works doesn't just provide a missile with this beast. The rider will also have access to state-of-the-art electronics with an APX-type ECU. Simply what they use in the World Superbike Championship. This electronic control unit integrates the same racing strategies as the race models. Its sensors are specific to best refine the electronic assists and benefit from data acquisition. The APX allows the rider to precisely calibrate traction control, wheelie control, power distribution, and engine braking; and this on each gear. An integrated GPS further improves the system.
With the purchase of this bike, Aprilia offers you a Yashi computer to parameterize the ECU. It is also possible to adjust the assists while riding, with the dedicated Jetprime commodos. For the suspensions, this is done manually – as it should be at this level of excellence. The machine is suspended full Öhlins, with an FKR pressurized inverted fork and a TTX type shock. Braking is close to being slammed into the wall, with impressive Brembo GP4-MS calipers (machined from aluminum with nickel plating) pushing racing Z04 pads; the whole gripping large 330 mm T-Drive discs. The calipers are cooled by carbon tunnels.
As this bike cannot be entered on the starting grid in competition, it can be freed from certain prohibitions. The use of carbon fiber rims is prohibited in competition… The Aprilia doesn’t care. It takes advantage of this, embraces the material, and its GP TEK wheels will provide even more agility and a more than substantial weight reduction. The tires are equally fitting, materialized by Pirelli Diablo SC-1 (front) of 125/70 – 17 and SC-X (rear) of 200/65 – 17. Namely the same tires as those of the World Superbike. Moreover, it allows itself to have a weight lower than that of the championship machines: 165 kg, or 3 less.
The RSV4 X ex3ma is also a multitude of additional parts aimed at a single purpose: performance – adjustable footrest platforms, a Brembo PR19x16 master cylinder, oversized Taleo Tecnoracing radiators, a titanium crown and a PBR lightweight pinion, a RK 520 racing chain, a clutch lever, a fork headstock (engraved with the limited-series number), a fuel cap, engine casings, and a brake lever protector made from machined aluminum.
Aprilia Racing has started a performance collection for an informed public with the RSV4 X. This was followed by volume 2 with the Tuono X; then episode 3 with the RSV4 X Trenta. Chapter 4 is dedicated to the ex3ma edition, the pinnacle of track efficiency for experienced and wealthy riders. Only 30 copies are planned, at a price of €80,000 each. They have all been sold in 76 days. That's far from the enthusiasm of a Brabus 1300 R, of which the 144 copies of 2022 went in less than 2 minutes; for twice the price, admittedly.
After reservation on the factoryworks.aprilia.com website, buyers will go and collect their fabulous tool directly at the Racing department of Aprilia, in Noale. From there, they will have a visit of the race division and a few small gifts for their RSV4 X ex3ma: a personalized cover, a rear stand, and a dedicated floor mat. Will they meet Max Biaggi in the corridors? Very likely. The multiple champion (GP and SBK) participated in the development and tuning of this track bike. Moreover, the overall livery is based on the RS 250 with which he triumphed in the mid-1990s.
