Overview
When a Chinese brand arrives in a hotly contested segment like the sporty 125, the question isn't one of curiosity but of credibility. Zontes is no longer completely unknown in Europe, and the GK 2025 represents a serious attempt to establish itself in a niche where KTM, Honda, and Yamaha have dictated the rules for years. The bet is bold. It is not completely missed.

What immediately strikes you is the size. With 160 kg at full weight, the GK carries a few extra kilos compared to its most refined rivals. A Duke 125 weighs around 148 kg, a YZF-R125 barely more. This surplus is not necessarily felt in the city, but when attacking on a small winding road, a slight inertia is perceived in the changes of support. Nothing prohibitive, but a point to note for those seeking a lively and lightweight machine above all. In return, the 17-liter tank provides genuinely comfortable autonomy, a concrete advantage for young license holders who make regular round trips without wanting to stop every 150 kilometers.
The 4-valve single-cylinder engine produces 14.6 horsepower at 9000 rpm, which is the legal ceiling for the A1 category. The torque of 12.7 Nm arrives at 7000 rpm, which encourages keeping the engine speed high to exploit the machine. The 6-speed gearbox is well-spaced and offers appreciable flexibility in everyday use. It is not an engine that surprises or excites, but it accomplishes its mission without jolts or capricious behavior. Euro 5 standard is respected, which ensures a certain regulatory durability in the years to come.
The cycle part deserves attention. The inverted fork is a significant argument at this price, where some competitors are content with a conventional fork on their entry-level models. Paired with a mono-shock at the rear, the GK offers a healthy base. The 110/70-17 and 130/70-17 tires are standard dimensions that open the choice among equipment suppliers. The two disc brakes are reassuring, even if the bite power remains in the average of the segment. The reinforced steel frame does not have the lightness of an aluminum perimeter, but it guarantees correct rigidity without exploding the bill.

At €4199, the GK positions itself below an RC 125 or an R125, which constitutes its main commercial argument. It is clearly aimed at young drivers holding an A1 license, urban dwellers who want a sporty-looking motorcycle without going through the case of a tight credit, and beginners who want to start on a complete machine without giving up equipment. Zontes plays the card of contained/price ratio, and the equation generally holds the road. The question of reliability over time and the after-sales network remains open, as with any brand in the phase of implantation on the European market. This is the bet that one accepts or refuses, according to one's appetite for risk.
