Overview
When a Chinese brand decides to play the classic retro card in the 125cc segment, it takes a risky bet. The market is saturated, dominated by references such as the Honda CB125R or the Royal Enfield Meteor 125, and buyers—often young, often discerning—do not easily grant their trust. Zontes, however, does not back down. With this 2025 125 C, the manufacturer from Guangzhou puts its pieces on the table and claims a strong visual identity, based on rounded lines and exposed metal, in a universe where plastic reigns supreme.

Under the 16-liter fuel tank lies a long-stroke 125cc single-cylinder engine, with a bore of 52 mm for a stroke of 58.7 mm and a compression ratio of 12.5:1. The configuration favors torque over high-revving power, as confirmed by the figures: 12.70 Nm available from 7000 rpm, and a power output peaking at 14.60 horsepower at 9000 rpm. This is not a competition engine; it is a touring engine, designed for urban journeys and winding roads rather than long highways. The 6-speed gearbox seems generous for the displacement, but it allows to spread the power over a wide range and optimize fuel consumption on the road.
The chassis incorporates a telescopic fork characteristic of neo-retro style machines, with 127 mm of travel. At the rear, a double adjustable shock absorber offers 87 mm of stroke. These values remain modest, consistent with a 137 kg dry weight motorcycle that is not intended to swallow dirt roads. The profile of the typical buyer is quite clearly defined: a young A1 license holder attracted by the vintage aesthetics, or a city dweller who wants something more expressive than a scooter without investing in a higher displacement.

The introductory price of 3087 euros places the 125 C in an intermediate zone. Less expensive than a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 which targets a wider audience, but more visually daring than a Yamaha YBR 125. Faced with the Lexmoto Venom 125 or the Brixton Cromwell 125, it holds up to comparison on the technical specifications, with a slightly more powerful engine and a finish that, according to first impressions, exceeds what was expected from the entry-level segment. The real unknown remains the medium-term reliability and the after-sales network, two areas in which Zontes is progressing in Europe but has not yet established the same level of trust as a Japanese manufacturer.

What this motorcycle sells above all is a posture. Not the performance, not the touring comfort, but an assumed style at an accessible price. For those looking for a sober and functional 125cc motorcycle, other choices are more appropriate. But for those who want to ride differently without breaking the bank, the 125 C deserves serious consideration.
