Overview
The aggressive monochrome and electric blue accents are serious business. When Yamaha dresses its YZ 250 in Monster Energy colors, it’s not just for show at the salon. It’s a signal, a declaration of belonging to the same family as the bikes that tear up the MXGP starting gates. The machine is dark, almost menacing, and it eyes you with this branded logo that says a lot about its ambitions: here, we don’t joke around.

Under this evening wear, the heart beats with the same fury as on the standard model. And that’s a good thing, because the base has been seriously reworked for 2022. No magic parts or extra power on this limited edition, simply the same engine of impact. We’re talking about a 249 cm3 two-stroke single cylinder, an absolute benchmark in the industry, which spits out its 48 horsepower with a relentlessness that offers no forgiveness. The aluminum frame has been refined, the 48 mm inverted fork and the shock have been recalibrated, and Yamaha has even shaved grams here and there, on a disc or a sprocket. The front braking gains bite with a new caliper. The result? A 103 kg machine, fully loaded, dry, nervous, and with unwavering aggression.
Is it worth shelling out the €8,799 requested, nearly €300 more than the standard version, for just an outfit? The question is worth asking. For the weekend rider, the difference might seem superfluous. But for those who live motocross as a team sport, where brand pride and identification count, this Monster drape has value. It places you in the clan of those who are entered, those who follow the championship and dream of identical deceleration lines. It’s an emotional argument, of course, but in a world where image is king, it weighs heavily.
Ultimately, this YZ 250 Monster Energy Edition remains above all an excellent motocross bike. It is one of the most accessible and well-developed in the queen category of 250 two-strokes. Its engine is a weapon, its chassis a model of precision, and its suspensions swallow the shocks without a murmur. It demands an active rider who likes to manage explosive power and mass transfer. The beginner will be overwhelmed, but the regular practitioner or competitor will find a pro tool, formidably effective. The special livery is the icing on the cake, a cake that is already very, very substantial. You pay for the prestige, but the mechanical base, it, is undeniable.
