Overview
A bagger wasn't enough at Yamaha... So, in 2014, the 1900 CFD got a little brother. Little? Not really. The latest arrival boasts a displacement of 1304 cm3, its fork head is as wide as an avenue, and its "Streamliner" silhouette doesn't go unnoticed.
Its base is the XVS 1300 Midnight Star, to which are added the aforementioned elements as well as a pair of rigid saddlebags matching the body color. Enough to enjoy a greater share of cruising without breaking the bank. Compared to the 1900 CFD, the 1300 gains more welcoming protection with its tall windscreen, loses about fifteen horsepower and 5 Nm of torque. Its cost, on the other hand, is under 13,000 euros, or 5,000 euros less. There's food for thought.
Let's go back to the mechanics of this 1300 - Its twin is a 4-valve per cylinder water-cooled engine, equipped with injection and variable ignition. Forged pistons move in cylinders with a super-square bore and stroke. An engine delivering its muscle of 73 horsepower at 5500 rpm, supported by almost 11 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. As with the 1900, Yam wanted to filter vibrations and uses the same type of double balancer as on the larger Midnight Star. Each balancer is placed on either side of the crankshaft, guaranteeing compactness. The engine of the XVS 1300 is also equipped with roller rocker arms to actuate its valves.
Double cradle frame using the engine as a stiffening element, shock absorber hidden under the chassis, triple disc brake of 298 mm diameter... The technical argument is not lacking. In 2011, Yam introduced its U.B.S (Unified Brake System) on the 1300 Midnight Star (as well as on the 1900). This system improves braking through simultaneous force on the two wheels, front and rear, when the rider actuates the rear brake.
