Overview
They call it the Racer, but let's be honest, no one will mistake it for a true track machine. This XV 950, dressed up for Yamaha’s sixtieth anniversary, is primarily a stylistic exercise. A custom that has traded its chrome for a retro-speed look, in the style of a relaxed café racer. The famous yellow and black speedblock, borrowed from the brand’s legendary racing machines, gives it a striking appearance. It’s serious, eye-catching, and it works. Even the small seat cowl plays the game. It looks like it rolled directly out of a 1970s garage, and that’s its whole charm.

Beneath these beautiful looks, we find the well-known heart of the Bolt. A 942 cm3 V-twin engine that has never been a lightning bolt. With 52 horsepower delivered at 5500 rpm, we are far from explosive performance. The philosophy is elsewhere. It focuses on generous and accessible torque, 79.4 Nm from 3000 rpm, which provides honest pulling power as soon as you twist the throttle. In the city or on a winding road, that's where it's comfortable. It pulls without stress, with a deep and regular sound. But don't expect thrills beyond that; the maximum speed is around 170 km/h and the five-speed gearbox does its job without frills.
The chassis, a classic steel double cradle, and the basic-tuned suspension, are designed for cool cruising, not for apex hunting. With a weight of 251 kg fully fueled and a seat height of 765 mm, it is stable and quite easy to handle. The braking system, with dual 298 mm discs, is correct without being sporty. It’s a machine that is ridden with your shoulders, without rushing. It forgives a lot and encourages relaxation. Perfect for the novice who wants a custom with character, or for a traveler looking for a unique presence without the mechanical headaches of a real antique.
So, who is it for? For those who believe that attitude counts as much as numbers. For a little more than €8,000 at the time, it offered an exclusive package, a limited edition that stands out. Faced with a more raw Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron, or a more versatile Triumph Bonneville, the Yamaha XV 950 Racer 60eme plays its nostalgic and aesthetic card to the fullest. It won’t win any dragster races, but it will capture all the looks at Sunday’s café. It’s a motorcycle with a mood, for those days when riding slowly while looking like you’re going fast is the only philosophy that matters.
