Overview

The Rocket III goes darker than dark. A very fashionable trend for a few years now. When a dark finish is no longer enough; it is necessary to cover a number of elements, to the point of blending the motorcycle with the night. This is what happens with this 'Black' edition, produced in a limited series.

Triumph decided to offer 1000 copies, the same number as for the Rocket III GT Triple Black and the Street Twin Gold Line. Almost a numerical standardization for the 2021 special series of the manufacturer. For a few hundred euros extra, this enormous custom with a phenomenal engine offers dark cachet but not a black design.

It begins with a touch of carbon for the front mudguard then we dive into the midnight bath. The Rocket III R uses black everywhere: the exhaust line, the fork legs, the brake caliper supports, the frame plates, the handlebar, the controls, the headlight rim, the radiator covers, the Triumph logo... The total list occupies a good paragraph. Only the steel strap and the tank cap, the brake discs and the screws are not black. As are the badges after the engine, in order to emphasize the name of the machine.

Under the cloak, the Rocket III cannot hide its exceptional engine. A huge 2.5-liter 3-cylinder engine, with 167 horsepower in the boiler and more than 22 mkg of torque. Technically, no changes from the standard R model. The motorcycle consumes Brembo Stylema brakes of beautiful facture, Showa suspensions including a 47 mm fork, an aluminum frame, wide tires like an avenue 150 and 240 mm wide, a shaft transmission housed in the monobras, 4 Riding Modes, traction control, an ABS cornering, a color TFT screen, cruise control, a keyless Keyless system, a USB socket, an LED light signature and a hill-hold control.

All that in the weight of a Harley Softail Standard, whose bicylinder is 30% less in displacement. But the target audience is not the same, nor is the technical level. Like all the special series of the English brand, the Rocket III R limited edition Black will be supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
