Overview
When a Harley-Davidson Evolution V2 leaves the Milwaukee assembly line to land in the hands of an artisan, almost anything is possible. Travertson Motorcycles, an American workshop specializing in radical reconfigurations, has pushed the concept to its paroxysm with this VR-2. Here, the engine is no longer a simple element of the chassis; it becomes the chassis itself, an engine-bearing block around which the entire technical edifice revolves. An architectural vision that defies conventions.

The 1250 cm³ V2, with its generous 105 mm bore, is the undisputed starting point. Travertson strips it down, modifies it, and retunes it to extract 120 horsepower and 115 Nm of torque, available relatively early at 7000 rpm. Lubrication and liquid cooling are revisited to support this new life, while the ESPFI electronic injection is recalibrated. It’s no longer the original pachydermic rumble, but a sharper mechanical feel, ready to respond without delay. The final belt transmission, a classic choice on this type of custom, ensures the connection to the rear wheel in relative silence.
The dual-shock rear suspension and the traditional telescopic fork at the front seem almost anachronistic on such a construction. That’s the whole spirit of the machine: to blend an ultra-modern, almost conceptual architecture with proven solutions. The braking system, with its dual front disc and single rear disc, fits into this same logic of raw and effective performance. There is no room for intrusive electronics or rider aids; the VR-2 demands total collaboration with its rider.
This motorcycle doesn’t converse with a BMW R nineT or a Ducati Monster. It exists outside the usual reading grid. Its audience is that of informed collectors and metal aesthetes, those who see in mechanics a kinetic sculpture. The price, inevitably high for a one-of-a-kind piece or built in a very limited series, is admission to a very closed club. Riding a Travertson VR-2 is piloting a fixed idea, an extreme interpretation of the custom philosophy where every bolt tells a story of obsession.
