Overview
Who said Suzuki had lost its boldness? While the market is overflowing with special series that are often interchangeable, the firm from Hamamatsu stands out with this GSX-S 950 R’’ Design. Limited to just 50 numbered copies, it was unveiled in preview at the 2022 French Grand Prix, a staging that suits its exclusive character. Far from the classic Replica or anniversary bodywork, it was to the AD Koncept studio, known for sometimes daring creations, that Suzuki France entrusted the styling. The result is a roadster that embraces a radical aesthetic, where an imposing stylized "R" in gold unfolds on a dark café background, enhanced with touches of gray and vibrant accents on the rims.

Under this stage costume, we find the solid and effective base of the GSX-S 950. The 999 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine, inherited from the former GSX-R1000, delivers 95 horsepower at 7800 rpm and a meaty torque of 92 Nm. A reliable and supple mechanical package, perfect for the road, even if it lacks a bit of punch compared to the nervousness of a Yamaha MT-09 or a Triumph Street Triple 765. With a weight of 214 kg fully fueled and a seat height of 810 mm, it remains accessible to a wide audience, from the touring rider looking for character to the experienced motorcyclist wanting a comfortable daily rider. The perimeter aluminum frame and the 43 mm inverted fork ensure serious handling, without pretensions of pure precision piloting.
But let's frankly talk about the elephant in the room: the price. At 11,549 euros, this limited series costs a serious supplement compared to the standard version. And beware of the trap of promotional photos: the magnificent Akrapovic exhaust, the small screen, or the engine covers visible in the photos are not included. They constitute options that can increase the bill by around 2000 euros. That's where the positioning becomes ambiguous. For this price, one is entitled to expect complete equipment, especially since the mechanics and the chassis are strictly identical to the base version.
Ultimately, this GSX-S 950 R’’ Design is a desirable object for the eye more than for the track. It will seduce the collector or aesthete wishing to own a unique Suzuki roadster, a numbered copy that stands out from the crowd. Its aggressive look and exclusivity are its true arguments. But for the pragmatic motorcyclist seeking performance or the best value for money, the standard version, or some more recent competitors, constitute much more rational choices. Suzuki proves that it knows how to create an event, but the technical specifications remain very down-to-earth.
