Overview

We all felt it coming, like a final purr before silence. As the GSX-R 1000 R prepares to retire, felled by the relentless Euro 5, Suzuki serves us a final dance in top form. Not just any attire: a "100th Anniversary" steel gray and Ecstar blue livery, which sounds like a vibrant tribute to the brand's competition history. It's serious, almost solemn. We are far from eye-catching stickers; here, the blue evokes the RT67s of the 60s and the gray recalls the patina of workshops. It's beautiful, understated, and full of meaning.

Suzuki GSX-R 1000 R 100th Anniversary (Japon)

Under this gala attire, it's the same beast we know, and that's a good thing. The 1000 cm3 inline-four still spits out 202 horsepower at 13,200 rpm, with that characteristic urgency that sticks you to the tank. The torque of 117.7 Nm arrives like an uppercut in the high revs, propelling the 203 kg fully fueled with a ferocity that hasn't aged a bit. The perimeter aluminum frame, Showa BPF fork, and Brembo radial calipers form a set of surgical precision, perfectly highlighted by state-of-the-art electronics: traction control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, bi-directional shifter... It's a pure track instrument that can also cruise on the road, a final testament to an era when brute power was still queen.

However, at €17,190, this special series raises questions. It brings nothing mechanical compared to the standard version, just exclusive paint and an engraved serial number. For the same price, or even less, you can afford an Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory or a BMW M 1000 RR, machines that, for their part, push the technical limits. The GSX-R, in its ultimate evolution, plays the card of emotion and heritage. It is aimed at the collector, the purist lover of the GSX-R lineage, the one for whom the name Suzuki resonates like that of Sheene or Schwantz.

It is therefore a foretold end, but what a finale. By marketing this anniversary livery outside of Japan, Suzuki has heard the clamor of fans. It's a beautiful farewell, a final wink before the curtain falls on one of the most iconic hypersportives in history. For the experienced rider looking for a machine with a raw character and a glorious pedigree, this "centennial" represents a piece of history to park in their garage. A museum piece that, once the ignition is turned, still propels you to 300 km/h. There aren't many machines capable of linking legend and excess to this extent.
