Overview
Riding in winter is not a punishment, it's a choice. Suzuki understood this before many others, and this Winter Edition of the V-Strom 1000 is the tangible proof: rather than waiting for spring like everyone else, the Hamamatsu brand offers an equipment pack designed for those who don't put their bike away at the first frost.

Under the fairing sits the 90° L-twin displacing 1037 cc, an engine with a strong character. Its 100 horsepower arrives at 8000 rpm, but it's above all the 103 Nm of torque available from 4000 rpm that makes this V-Strom enjoyable day to day, whatever the season. On cold, wet roads, that low-rpm availability is a genuine safety asset. The 250 kg fully loaded is felt at a standstill but forgotten the moment the 19-inch front wheel finds its line, supported by a 43 mm inverted fork with 160 mm of travel on each side.
What sets this edition apart is not mechanical, it's functional. Heated grips and handguards are standard equipment, as are the LED fog lights, engine guard, centre stand, and side panniers. A coherent package, designed for long-distance riding in the cold, that transforms a versatile adventure tourer into a machine built to swallow winter kilometres without sacrificing comfort. At €13,199, the proposition is honest: the added accessories are easily worth several hundred euros bought separately — Suzuki is practically throwing them in.
The real challenge for this V-Strom is its image. Up against the BMW R 1200 GS, which dominates the segment with its prestige and marketing clout, or even the Triumph Tiger 1050, the Japanese adventure tourer suffers from a desirability deficit that its genuine qualities don't always overcome in the public imagination. The 850 mm seat height will suit a wide range of riders, the 20-litre tank delivers serious range, and the six-speed gearbox is well-spaced. On paper and on the road, there is little to fault. But in a dealership, people are also buying a dream, and Suzuki still struggles to sell that dream as effectively as the competition.
This V-Strom Winter Edition is aimed at the pragmatic road warrior — the rider who rides in all weather, who appreciates a complete equipment package without spending hours poring over accessories catalogues. Not a poser, not a track-day regular. A user. And for that rider, this Suzuki ticks almost every box with a straightforwardness that is rare in this segment.
