Overview

MV Agusta faces strange omens. Amidst the turmoil of its KTM ally and with a lack of new releases, the Varese firm is relying on its heritage to bring color to 2025. Especially its own, to underscore the tribute it pays to its 80th anniversary through a series of models: the Ottantesimo.

Who better than the Superveloce 800 S to bear the banner of a commemoration?! It, the lauded neo-retro exercise with the codes and culture of MV. Pronounce EmVi – The machine insists that everyone correctly pronounce the initials of its parent by writing them “phonetically Emmevi” on the leather tank strap and the fork tube.

This is one of the particularities of this special series. It celebrates the anniversary with a typically MV-Agusta red / gray paint, quite close but more satin than the color of the standard Superveloce 800, new “Millerighe” rims with machined spokes, a red Alcantara seat, and the redesigned MV logo as it was in the past.

This Superveloce 800 S Ottantesimo is not released without its sporty attire. Thus, it will be delivered with a matching seat cover as well as vintage-style Arrow exhausts with marked efficiency. Thanks to them, the power of the 3-cylinder engine goes from 147 to 153 horsepower, thinking that the weight of the machine falls from 197.5 kg to 189.5 kg; without fuel. An engine that is reworked to meet Euro5+ standard without loss of watts. It also gains a new clutch requiring 50% less effort on the lever.

Like all machines in the Ottantesimo collection, the SV will be produced in limited numbers, 500 copies. Its number in the series is engraved on a special plate screwed onto the fork tube. A certificate of authenticity accompanies the motorcycle to perpetuate its pedigree.

If the Superveloce cultivates a retro image, it also cares about its modernism by relying on the F3 800 – which is not entitled to the 80th anniversary festivities but outperforms with a radical “Competizione” version. This allows it to have sporty equipment with an inverted fork and a fully adjustable shock absorber, robust Brembo Stylema brake calipers, Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV Corsa tires, and a plethora of electronics: 3rd generation Up&Down shifter, Cornering ABS, 4 Riding Modes, 8-level traction control, launch control, wheelie control, 5.5-inch color TFT screen, Bluetooth, GPS module, geolocation system, anti-stoppie and cruise control.

Wait a second. This is the 80th anniversary of what? Of the Agusta brand? Not quite. Count Giovanni Agusta first created a box to make airplanes, in 1907. It was his son Domenico who founded Meccanica Verghera Agusta S.p.A. on January 19, 1945, to manufacture motorcycles. The rest will be written with the small 98 cm3 moped, a strong presence in competition, 37 world championship titles, some drivers like John Surtees, Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, Carlo Ubbiali, Phil Read, iconic names such as Tamburini or Castiglioni... and a destiny whose outcome seems elusive.
