Overview
At what point does a motorcycle cease to be a simple vehicle and become a statement? With the 2013 MV Agusta Rivale 800, the question doesn't even arise. Here, we are dealing with pure desire, a stylistic exercise where every line is a provocation. MV Agusta has never been about compromise, and this Rivale is striking proof: neither entirely trail, nor completely roadster, it draws on the codes of supermotards to create something unique. A bold gamble, in the image of its razor-sharp design.

From the first glance, the silhouette captivates you. It’s not a conventional beauty; it’s an aggressive architecture. The split nose of a diamond-shaped headlight evokes a raptor, the flanks are stretched to the extreme, and this rear monobrach exposing the rim is a stroke of pure MV genius. One immediately thinks of the Ducati Hypermotard, its eternal rival, but the Rivale 800 embraces its madness with even more theatricality. The detail of the integrated turn signals in the handguards, the retractable mirrors, the clean rear end where the lights migrate to the fender… everything is designed to provoke the eye. It’s exactly what one expects from a machine signed Varese: an aesthetic shock.
Beneath this artist’s bodywork beats the heart of a sportbike. The engine is the famous 798 cm3 triple, from the Brutale 800, with its counter-rotating crankshaft that limits gyroscopic effects. 125 horsepower at 12,000 rpm, 84 Nm of torque at 8600 rpm, all for a dry weight of 170 kg. The numbers speak for themselves: it’s a nervous, explosive motorcycle that only asks to be challenged. The chassis is up to the task, with its steel trellis frame, Marzocchi inverted fork, and Sachs adjustable shock absorber in all directions. MV even promises improved handling compared to the Brutale, thanks to a more open steering angle. A significant argument for those who want to ride in the city or on winding roads.

The electronics are not to be outdone, with the MVICS system offering, among other things, eight-level traction control and three engine maps. The dashboard, entirely digital, seems straight out of a fighter jet cockpit. Everything is there to give the rider the impression of taming a wild beast, but with modern safety nets. For a test ride of the MV Agusta Rivale 800, it is this duality that marks: the savagery of the engine against the sophistication of the assistance.
So, who is this Rivale for? Certainly not a beginner, despite the restrictable versions for the A2 license. Its lively character, its extreme look, and its price – €10,990 at the time – destine it to an experienced rider seeking exclusivity. It’s a motorcycle for those who assume they will be noticed, for those who prefer style to convenience (the 12.9-liter tank gently reminds you). Today, searching for a used MV Agusta Rivale 800 is searching for this unique piece, this mechanical whim that has never sought to please the masses. Faced with the competition, it doesn’t compete, it exists. And that’s precisely its charm.
