When the silhouette in question bears Massimo Tamburini's signature, it's easier to understand why the design offices in Varese trembled before picking up their pencils. The MV Agusta F4 1000 R, 2010 vintage, is the first of the line to dare touch the original drawing without betraying it. Insiders will spot the slimmed-down headlights, the swollen air scoops, the widened fairing vents and above all those four exhaust outlets that abandon the mythical organ-pipe shape in favor of a square geometry. The choice divides, but it commands respect.

Under the bubble, the dashboard finally goes fully digital, with a generous screen that lines up more information than most Japanese sportbikes of the moment. And underneath, the engineers worked with a scalpel. The 1078.3 cc inline four still displays the same bore and stroke dimensions (79 x 55 mm), but the manufacturer claims a fully revised block. Reinforced connecting rods, crankshaft with inertia increased by 50%, variable intake through modulation of the funnel height, Marelli 7BM management with traction control and mapping linked to the engaged gear. The result comes in at 186 horsepower at 12,900 rpm and 144 Nm at 9,000 rpm, for 192.5 kg dry and a top speed announced at 305 km/h. On paper, the technical bill stands up to the Japanese of the moment, even if the Yamaha R1 crossplane and the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 remain more accessible to the wallet.
Let's talk money, since that's the question that keeps coming up. What is the price of an MV Agusta F4 1000 R? The Italian is priced at 18,500 euros in 2010, a tag that places it well above a Ducati 1198 and light-years from a CBR 1000 RR. This premium positioning assumes a specific clientele, one that has already moved past the stage of simple performance-to-price ratio. For a beginner or a rider looking for versatility, move along. So the verdict. This F4 keeps its aesthetic promise, gains in mechanical rigor, joins the electronic standards of its era without ever giving up its DNA as an Italian jewel. It demands a patient rider, a service book kept to the letter, and a garage where hours aren't counted. For the rest, it still turns heads, something no Japanese bike manages to produce with the same intensity.
